Hello everyone. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you how God has brought me to this point. Throughout recent years I''ve had growing dreams that some day I would record an album. It wasn''t something that I could''ve placed in time. I didn''t know when or how. I just wanted to record. Last fall I was asked by a friend to sing a harmony for one of her songs she was recording. Just being in the studio increased my desires. Many people had been telling me that I needed to record and I promised them I would some day.
When Katie Rose released her album "Carry On" in January 2005, I couldn''t contain my excitement. I wanted to record. I began by praying and then talking to my parents. Seeing as how it was my last semester at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, I thought it best to record where I had the best and most resources. I had come to know many very talented musicians in my four years in music ministry and they were all very willing to help. Mike Ofka, owner of Innovation Studios, where I recorded, was very helpful in getting me started.
The main issue was the money, fortunately God works in marvelous and mysterious ways and provided for me. My loving parents were behind me every step of the way. Everything seemed to take off from there. Before I knew it I had put together a song list and we started recording March 4th 2005, which was the beginning of my spring break.
Patti Byrne came in and recorded the piano tracks first. We were supposed to go straight into recording the lead vocals first, but I came down with sinusitis and I lost my voice for most of the week. God''s timing is not our timing. We had plenty of other things to work on so it didn''t really matter. We went from there to recording the guitar tracks. Mike Ofka played both the classical and acoustic guitars and Dan Bozek played the bass. By that time I had regained my voice and was able to lay down the lead vocals. I had Katie Rose come in and sing harmonies for Sweet Mother and Be Thou My Vision. Phil Rosensteel came in and played percussion and the penny whistle. Phil is an absolute genius on percussion. Josh Spears came in and played the violin for Panis Angelicus and Morning Prayer and Patti Byrne laid down the keyboard string pads.
The whole project was a blast and it really helped to have friends around me who believed in me and were just as excited about the album as I was. Mike Ofca worked endless hours to make everything sound perfect. He was such a blessing because I sat down with him once in the beginning and told him what I was going for. He really was able to take on my vision and make it his own. He was able to add many of his own ideas that helped the vision blossom into reality. Phil, Patti, and Katie were there as well, cheering me on. All of them went the extra mile and made many sacrifices. Patti even gave up the beginning of her spring break to help record the piano tracks.
After all the recording was over, Patti and I put together the artwork for the album cover with pictures taken by Karen Courtney. This whole process was a learning experience. I had to learn to use Adobe Illustrator in order to send everything off to Discmakers. This took about a week to do. But finally after the first week of April everything was done and ready to be sent. It was good to have it out of my hands for a while so I could focus more on the thirty-five pages of typing I had to do before the end of the semester.
At Discmakers my album was reproduced and I received the first shipment of one thousand copies on April 28 2005.
