Solar Flare strives to take guitar instrumental music into new realms by blending the best elements of classic rock and fusion with progressive compositions, a contemporary dash of world music flavour and a fun sense of musical adventure. Imagine if Zappa had written the music for Jeff Beck''s "Blow by Blow", adding the fire of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, some Beatles-like psychedelia and the zany guitar antics of early Steve Vai. The result would come close to describing the vibe and momentum of the music on ''Solar Flare''. Add to the picture the kind of exceptional guitar playing that would stand up to the rigorous demands of such dynamic music. Phi''s individual playing comfortably spans the gap from emotional and passionate phrasing on the ballads ''So Far Away'' and ''Passion Reborn'', to insane alien hyper shred guitar tradeoffs with Bumblefoot on ''Psychometamorph''.
The album also features the phenominal performances of world renowned drummer Marco Minnemann, and bassist Fabio Trentini, with guest appearances by keyboard virtuoso Lale Larson, Peter Stacey on flute/saxophone and ex-Gryphon bassonist Brian Gulland among others.
