Brooklyn''s own PHOENIX & THE SHADOW, the King and Queen of the new hip hop, has released DIFFERENT THEY THINK (Dark Theory Records) one of the most creatively smart, genre bending cd''s of the year. Exploring many human emotions, DIFFERENT THEY THINK, released in Spring 2003, gives a refreshingly honest look at day to day living. This is seen on their songs "SEX", a track about a person''s first time having sex and again in their club anthem "WHEN I''M DRUNK", a song about how good a person looks after you''ve had to much to drink. Backed by a live band, PHOENIX & THE SHADOW have developed their own sound they call "TRIPPY STAR", which uses the aggressive drum patterns of drum&bass and the caribbean undertones of reggae.
PHOENIX & THE SHADOW is lead by TARON and VOODO FE'', a unisex mc duo. They utilize this as one of their greatest strength giving both the female and male prospective. Taron, a professional fitness trainer, drops a smooth delivery and sexual flow without having to wear a g-string on stage. Off stage, she has a laid back character, but when a mic is in front of her... my god, the beast comes rushing out of her. Voodo Fe'', a fashion designer who has designed the ''New Jersey Nets'' current uniforms, the boxing shorts and robe for Evander Holyfield in his fight against Mike Tyson (yes...the infamous one where Holyfield was mauled). He has also designed for Avirex, Damimi Dada and Davoucci. Clearly the weirdo of the two, Voodo fe'', who once had his elbow pierced, will give you all he has on or off stage... like it or not.
PHOENIX & THE SHADOW is a 4 piece live band, another anomaly in hip hop. Their powerful live show has been compared to ''THE ROOTS'' meeting
''NO DOUBT''. PHOENIX & THE SHADOW, Opening for run-dmc, naughty by nature and meshell n''degeocello, their live show is a high energy, feel good experience that many other hip hop shows lack.
