From the Christmas film ''Wonderland'' starring John Altman (Nasty Nick Cotton in BBC Television''s Eastenders)!
The title track ''Merry Christmas'' can be heard at the end of the film.
The ''Mistress of Swing'' Debbie Curtis, best known as Musical Director and Vocalist of top UK Big Band ''The Debbie Curtis Radio Big Band'' wrote and produced all the music on the CD as part of a project she organized to encourage young musicians and singers at the Curzon C of E School near her home in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
''Wonderland'' is a magical, children''s adventure story about two children ''Sarah'' and ''Ben'' who live at ''Fairoaks children’s home''. Their parents died when they were little and left them with no family leaving them very lonely.
However on Christmas Eve they are visited by an elf called ''Tiddlywinks''. He tells them that he is collecting the letters for ''Father Christmas'' and in turn ''Sarah'' persuades him to take her and her brother ''Ben'' to visit the home of ''Father Christmas'' in Wonderland. ''Tiddlywinks'' with much persuasion agrees to take them.
When they arrive in Wonderland they are greeted by the other elves ''Marbles'', ''Jigsaw'' and ''Jenga'' and ''Father Christmas'' and also a character called ''Concert''. After seeing how the elves make the toys and having a good time they return to the children''s home where they fall fast asleep, they wake up Christmas morning with a wonderful surprise...
The Cool Curzon Cafe Orchestra was formed in March 2001 and this is the third CD of seven in total.
The children, aged 7 to 11, had little or no experience as musicians, but with the unique construction of Debbie''s music arrangements were all able to play short, repeated parts, that when all put together created an amazing result!
For many of the children it was the start of a musical journey, a number of whom have since evolved into excellent musicians and singers.
The Orchestra performed at charitable events and quickly outgrew the confines of the school. Debbie moved the orchestra to a new base at Tylers Green enabling children from any local school to take part.
In 2005, and after 7 CDs, Debbie chose to close the Orchestra due to the increasing success of her own performance career.
It was a fascinating project and a credit to Debbie in her commitment to encourage young children to take up musical instruments or singing in a UK climate where Government money for music in schools is virtually non existent.
