The Curst Sons
Dave Simner -Banjo, Lead Guitar, Vocals.

Inspired by American traditional music with an added shot of urban grit and dose of wry humour the Sons powerful rootsy songs combine elements of Old Time, Blues, Hillbilly and Hellfire Gospel.
Based in Brighton, UK, the boys have played in many different bands over the years. In their time they have shared the stage with acts as diverse as Ian Dury, Hayseed Dixie, George Melly, The Clash, Billy Joe Shaver and Arthur Brown (The God of Hellfire!) Playing in venues ranging from back kitchens to festivals and the Hammersmith Apollo.
They have released three CDs on their own Curst Mountain label Hey Moon 2007, Hell Awaits You 2005, and A Day Late and a Dollar Short 2003.
The Curst Sons wrote and recorded the soundtrack for a video piece by artist Jack Strange exhibited at Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York. They also supplied the soundtrack for the short film Horseboy Gets a Gun by Jane Couldrey and can be heard on the downhill skateboarding film Road Buzz.
In 2008 The Curst Sons have been both London listing magazine Time Out recommended show and critic''s choice. The Curst Sons are also a powerful live act, but don''t just take their word for it...

At this point everyone seemed to be dancing, the band moved between acoustic and electric numbers, swapping instruments with ease. There is no let up until the end when at last the crowd began to thin. Even the beer has run out by now but it has been a brilliant evening.

version that hasn''t had all it''s rough edges sanded off for popular consumption.
Consequently the raw combination of mandolin, banjo, guitar and vocals has a delightfully dirt-road quality to it.

The Curst Sons have got everything nailed and nailed good. In lesser hands this kind of thing would be mere pastiche or third rate tribute nonsense, but from the dominating lead vocals to the furious percussion and banjo, which are often beaten into submission rather than merely played, these boys are for real.
All bar two of these songs are original, and it speaks volumes for them that they sit seamlessly alongside the two https://www.tradebit.com covers. Hey Moon is one of those albums that restore your faith in British country music.

The good news is that ''Hey Moon'' carries on in exactly the same vein as ''Hell Awaits You''. Those looking for musical progression, lyrical complexity or tortured artistic temperament should stop reading right now. However, those who love good old Americana, made by three grizzled old veterans who love what they do should get hold of ''Hey Moon'' immediately.
The Curst Sons are not to everybody’s tastes. Their biggest appeal is that they manage to stay true to American folk music’s rich lineage, while throwing in enough curve balls to piss off the folk puritanicals.
Go forth and buy ''Hey Moon'' and then go and see the shows. The Curst Sons deserve your support.

The Curst Sons are three Brighton lads who play gutsy, rootsy songs, mostly self-penned, that combine old-time, hillbilly and hellfire gospel. Their stripped-down energy is reminiscent of the upfront back-to-basics thrust of The White Stripes, but with instrumentation instead consisting of banjo, lead and slide guitars, mandolin and percussion the sound is rougher down-home yet retaining that added dash of urban grit.
Hey Moon turns out to be the band''s third CD, and it''s a powerful set of 13 songs, eleven of which are band-penned. The energy never quite lets up, but once you latch onto the Curst Sons groove you never quite want to clamber on out of it.
