PLANK63 was formed in the Fall of 2000 when four very determined and like-minded musicians seemed almost pulled together as if it were destiny to create the kind of band they always wanted to be in.
Guitarist Donnie Vito, known in the Boston scene for his monstrous tone and hooks, wanted to create something that he felt very few bands were doing. He envisioned creating a band that was undeniably powerful, catchy and melodic, staying true to themselves while being mass-marketable. To begin the foundation he connected with bassist James Whitman, known to be one of the most solid downbeat bassists on the Boston scene. Soon after they brought in drummer Ara Stepanian, a heavy hitting and intricate percussionist. It was only a matter of time before they found their front man, singer Cameron MacKenzie, a vocalist with a reputation for his extreme power, versatility, visual showmanship and catchy songwriting. Together they formed a musical bond to create the kind of music they wanted to hear on the radio, car stereos, in videos, and in the arenas. This musical bond became PLANK63.
P63 headed straight into the studio to produce their self-titled debut CD for independent label, Flabbin Records. Releasing the critically acclaimed disc to a beyond capacity crowd at one of Boston''s premier "elite" clubs, they quickly followed the momentum by moving thousands of copies within a short amount of time. The buzz grew as they continued to move through the New England scene, playing their way across the East Coast. The band had barely a moment to rest as they tirelessly brought their contagious energy to the stages of city clubs and colleges along with opening for various national acts. P63 rapidly gained a reputation for their overpowering live presence. With their wall of sound, powerful image and dramatic visual performance, they started to noticeably dominate every stage they took. They soon adopted the motto: "Bring it, and leave everything you''ve got on the stage".
With their growing popularity and reputation, P63''s second CD demanded a producer who could escalate them to a higher level and replicate the sound they were known for creating live. They recruited the talents of Jim Foster (Nullset), a New England rock guru known for capturing a band''s true essence and feel. Together they found a chemistry that can be heard on their new CD, DIVISIONAL - a collection of songs filled with waves of sonic power, infectious hooks, anthem-like choruses and crushing rhythms.
To hear P63 is to listen to a band that wants to earn your respect the hard way, writing powerful catchy music that speaks to you without gimmicks, trends, or being copycats. To see P63 live is to experience raw unforgiving intensity, relentless emotion, self-sacrificing energy and the gravitational pull to sing their choruses with them. To know P63 is to understand that they live the very songs they write.
