MP3 Paul Meredith - Waiting for a Chinese Sun... to shine

Modern Folk

12 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, COUNTRY: Modern Country

Details:
"Waiting for A Chinese Sun... to shine..." is Paul Meredith''s homage to Hong Kong, where he moved from the US in 1990. It was written around the time of HK''s handover to Chinese sovereignty and released shortly afterward. Memorable songs include "Eagle Eye," a birds eye view of HK''s political scene, "Astronaut Lady," a unique narrative about the impact of cultural, economic and political pressures on a "typical" international family, and "Hap m Happy," depicting the linguistic follies of an inept foreigner (yes folks, it''s autobiographical!). Lots of lyrical guitar parts and some nice drum kit and djembe work by Peter Suart. The album closes with "Slow Boat to China," one person''s appeal to put politics aside and to move forward for the sake of our common humanity.

From South China Morning Post (Hong Kong) review of "Chinese Sun" live performance, 18 March, 1999:

"Paul Meredith and his crew unleashed a flood of familiar emotions in a tribute to Hong Kong and the feelings it provokes in those who live here... Enigmatically conveying its hopes for a better future, (Waiting for a Chinese Sun... to shine) was a timely reminder that Hong Kong has yet to regain its sure footing during troubled times."

Paul Meredith is a unique folk singer songwriter. He has worked on behalf of the U.N. and various NGOs with refugees and other victims of war and disaster from every continent -- all the while chronicling emotions and events through songwriting, recording and performing. Paul lived in Hong Kong for over ten years; "Waiting for a Chinese Sun... to shine," released in Hong Kong in 1999, is his musical take on all of the attention surrounding the return of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty in 1997.

Paul Meredith began playing guitar as a boy; growing up in rural Michigan provided a background rich in American folk traditions. His passion for peace and justice issues often serves as a backdrop for his songs, which have played on radio in Hong Kong, America and Europe. Paul Meredith is strongly attracted to music''s power to enhance communication and understanding - reflecting the enduring legacy of the vision of folk and rock music''s golden age. His other releases are "Spiritual Springtime" (1996), "Shadows of Belgrade" (2001), and "In Your Travels" (2004). He lives in Shanghai, China.
