BIOGRAPHY: KYLE E.

I was the kid playing guitar out on the front porch. Singing in the locker room. Harmonizing with the only African-American student in high school. I don''t remember it all so well, but people back home remind me whenever I visit the old neighborhood. Helps me remember what got me here -- Fast, my third album.

Girls always asked me to sing at their weddings. I thought that was a little strange, not having come from a particularly musical background. Guess I just thought everybody had a song to sing, that mine was nothing special. My mother, aunt, and grandmother pitched in to buy me basic guitar lessons. I had always been drawn to the guitar. It never quite did what I wanted though, so I tended to play pretty aggressively. Still do.

As I got older I realized that I had talent. Got in a bar band and found out that, put a microphone in front of me I act like Mick Jagger. Went to college to become a teacher. Yet songwriting was always in the back of my mind. I deliberately courted heartache, I think, just for material.

I paid my dues playing live. Played all those weddings as promised. Years later I still believed that everybody had that song in them, it''s just that I had to get mine out there. Released two successful albums. When the second album came out, my brother pointed out that it had a definite country twang, to my horror. Now I''ve come to terms with the fact that I might have a little more country in me than I thought.

I still remember those great 70s melodies coming from my folks'' AM radio. I once took a job at a music store just to be near the ex-hippies, the ones who stayed around to raise families & play in bar bands, instead of taking their chances on becoming session players in Nashville or LA. Thought I would soak up the 70s through osmosis. Though I''ll never have what they have, that free-minded spirit, for this album I wanted to make what I call, the new 70s. Lyrical, live, fun, fresh & intelligent. Call it old wine in a new bottle. Hope it ages well.
