Idioterne is one of the tightest outfits to have come up out of the Madrid underground in the last few years. They cut their teeth on the thriving nocturnal scene around Malasaña, where they have carved out a name for themselves, word of mouth being the driving force up until now. Intense songs, an emotionally driven and yet technically impeccable live show,it’s not hard to see why they have become so popular.
The idea to form Idioterne came about as a result of the friendship between Vick Lindström (vocals & guitar), Swedish by origin, now living a nomadic lifestyle toing and froing between Madrid and Brighton, with Migui (bass) and Juan A. (drums). Rockers to a man, obsessed with post hardcore and indie rock, on learning that At The Drive In their joint favourite band had broken up they decided it was down to them to fill the gap and take up the mantel
of rage driven, emotionally charged rock.
In true rock ‘n’ roll tradition things started to take shape in a garage–cum-rehearsal room with the long, hot Madrid afternoons spent perfecting their craft and impregnating their songs with attitude, passion and sweat. From there it was on to the first concerts and the band competitions, where suddenly Idioterne found themselves hailed as the next breakthrough band, winning the prestigious Emergenza competition among others. Support
acts with name artists such as Dover followed.
The wide range of influences, such as The Clash, Stone Temple Pilots, Queens of the Stone Age and early Police have rapidly led Idioterne towards becoming a new point of
reference on the national rock market, revitalizing the genre within Spain, and further a field performing at such renowned festivals as Festimad and Popkomm.
After being pursued by several companies finally Idioterne have opted to sign for PuPilo Records, young, independent Spanish label known for fervently supporting emerging new
talent. The homonymous debut LP packs a powerful punch, transmitting all the nervous energy and electricity of the live shows to the studio and mixing it up with finely tuned vocal melodies and guitar arrangements as show by examples such as “The Fly and the Orchid” the incredibly catchy “Reinvigorate” and “Fuck Them All, Big and Small” The LP includes a contribution from Leiva (Pereza), friend and fan from the earliest days.
Tracks such as “Jive” – selected by Pepe Jeans for a European wide ad campaign, and included in the TV spots promoting the Formula 1 2008 season – demonstrate the potential of a band destined to become an icon on the Spanish alternative rock scene.
