What is “Ignid?” The word Ignid is the ebonic form of the word ignorant, which is what Darius’ (guitar/vocals) father called them as they practiced in his living room every weekend at the crack of dawn. Rightfully so, it is hard to ignore, let alone sleep through, any of Ignid’s hard hitting, experimental brand of rock fury. With influences ranging from the various projects of the eclectic Mike Patton, the contagious melodies of The Beatles, and the haunting harmonies of Alice In Chains, Ignid achieves musical diversity while maintaining its hard edge roots.
Getting their start in Orlando, Ignid, has played at all of the premier Central Florida venues such as House of Blues, Hard Rock Live, The Social, and the legendary Will’s Pub. Regionally Ignid has played all over Florida and Southeast United States as well as select shows all over the East Coast. Ignid has been fortunate enough to share the stage with renowned national and regional bands such as Authority Zero, Indorphine, Milka, Junkie Rush, and Saigon Kick.
Each member of Ignid brings a different approach and point of view to their music because of their various backgrounds. Vocalist and Guitarist Darius Amendolia, born in Philadelphia, PA. is the main creative force in the group. His knack for creating original, distinctive guitar riffs and melodies creates the underpinning if Ignid’s sound, ultimately making Ignid one of the most dynamic bands in Orlando. Darius’ gritty vocals and terror inspiring screams command the audience’s attention by force. The Yin to Darius’ Yang is none other than Mark Dunham. Born in Nyack, NY. Mark is the soulful tinge to Ignid’s diverse sound. His groovealicious bass licks and smooth vocal style allow the group to tread on ground that most other hard rock bands fear, something that Ignid embraces. The foundation of the band is provided by drummer Rik Martinez. This Lorain, Ohio native is one of the most ferocious drummers in Orlando. With uncompromising intensity Rik combines Darius’ energy with Mark’s suave to create the rhythm that drives Ignid’s sound. His adaptive drumming allows Ignid’s music to move in every possible direction. Together Ignid is a musical force to be reckoned with, providing the most distinctive and original music in a time of copy cat bands and wannabes.
Ignid has been providing some of the most intense music coming out of Central Florida for the past five years, however their most recent incarnation has brought them the most attention, making this the most promising lineup yet. Wherever they go, audiences and fellow bands alike are energized by their dynamic music and energetic live show. Never before more inspired or dedicated to their music, Ignid seeks to bring their musical ideas to the masses. There is something in Ignid for everyone, just keep listening.
