Citing the likes of Mississippi John Hurt, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Rush, and Bob Dylan among his major influences, Hawai''i resident Paul Crepeau''s second C.D. "Today''s a New Song" is a collection of fifteen original songs that often straddle the fine line between despair and hope, ultimately summed up in the album''s title track. Unlike his first effort "Strangers in the Doorway," Crepeau is this time joined by veteran musician Jeff Quin on violin and mandolin, adding much to the depth of feeling already generated by Crepeau''s unique acoustic-guitar style and salty vocals. Produced by Max Ventura in a tiny hole-in-the-wall dwelling that became affectionately known as "The Barn," a level of simplicity and spontaneity exists that is hard to find on many high-production projects.
