Vicious technical death metal in the vein of Cynic, Atheist and Morbid Angel.

8 MP3 Songs
METAL: Death Metal, METAL: Progressive Metal

Details:
"Any agent that causes or induces psychosis"

-- the name PSYCHOTOGEN perfectly suits the style and subject matter of this band''s lyrical content, which deals with issues such as psychotic process, criminal insanity, self-mutilation and delusions of grandeur. Additionally, the ominous implications of the name simultaneously reflect the diverse and unpredictable nature of the music itself. Retaining all the unique and positive aspects of their earlier projects (Pessimist, Misery Index), the members of PSYCHOTOGEN have decided to raise the bar for themselves - to push themselves to greater extremes in the pursuit of their ultimate goal: to create unique, intelligent music that is both devastatingly heavy and completely original.

Taking their influences from both the pioneers (Atheist, Cynic, Death, Morbid Angel) and the present-day innovators (Dillinger Escape Plan, Nile) of the extreme metal scene PSYCHOTOGEN''s sound is unique. The band integrates the best elements of technical death metal and traditional old-school brutality with a unique approach to song writing, which never forgets to incorporate melody and musicianship.

Praise for The Calculus of Evil...

Live 4 Metal: ... If the debut was good, this album is stellar! thoroughly enjoyable, utterly brutal, and musically brilliant listening experience.

Maelstrom Nov 2003: awe-inspiring technical death metal! Raging brutal death this is not, but rather a dizzying blend of serpentine riffs and galloping bass work. Without any doubt, this is my Pick of the Issue. 9.6 / 10.

https://www.tradebit.com: ...a fantastic ability to make their songs not just a group of individual displays of brilliant musicianship, but the songs actually stick with sly structures and refrains that fans of bludgeoning and complexity will be more than satiated. ... The end result ends up as a surprisingly refreshing and unique album, that both retreads classic influences while upping the brutality index, so it measures up to today''s standard. This is one of those few death metal albums where there are no peaks and valleys, the whole album is one fluid, satisfying listen from start to finish - all the songs are f*cking great. A rising bright spot in US death metal that brings some identity to the scene by virtue of resurrecting almost forgotten influences and injecting if with enough modern brutality to make something pretty special.

Vampire Magazine: ... The musicianship is of an extraordinary level ... The songs are all of an extremely high level, lots of variation. One of the better albums I''ve heard in quite a while.

https://www.tradebit.com: ...first class talent here. This is utter brutality with technical proficiency. You can tell that these guys took the time to write killer compositions and it shows. I am sure that Chuck Schuldiner is looking up and smiling because he did something right and these guys were no doubt inspired by DEATH and all that was and is technical today.

https://www.tradebit.com: I was completely unprepared for the lunacy! The music on The Calculus of Evil is smart, and interesting...

Skratch Magazine: The lesson for today, boys and girls, is that metal is an artform which transcends boundaries and stereotypes. ...a monster of a band is born that can wipe away all preconceived notions about metal and its sub-genres. For the adventurous metalhead, Psychotogen delivers.

Xtreem Music: ...second album from this amazing North American band. This band is making what they want and make on the trends. The future of Extreme Metal is passing through this kind of band, one that cares about making
great music. 9.5 / 10

Tartarean Desire: ...they are not like any other band. ... it takes a lot if you want to accomplish something out of the ordinary. This is what Psychotogen has managed to do. ... Psychotogen as one of the most promising younger bands of the genre right now. It''s ominous, brutal, technical and, most importantly, exciting.

Into Obscurity: "The Calculus of Evil" is the whole package. Psychotogen craft their death metal songs with the utmost attention placed on musicianship. I''d put them in league with the almighty Death as far as technical mastery and innovation in songwriting goes in this genre.

Metal Side Webzine : ... What is striking at first glance is the diversity of approaches to songwriting. ... band is doing the same thing that Atheist was doing a decade ago: redefine the boundaries of death metal.

Pull the Chain Zine: ...they simply found the right balance between technique and catchiness. A great album for every death metal listeners.

Supreme Brutality Webzine: ...if you like your metal played with great variation and unpredictability, nothing should hold you back from checking Psychotogen out; they really know how to create some truly amazing and quite original music. 5/6

https://www.tradebit.com : ...very well put together, and alarmingly good. This is only their second release and I believe that they have a long stellar career ahead of them. Take a listen, you''ll like what you hear!

Eternal Frost: ...A great, massive album! Awesome Mike Bohatch cover art comes together to create a release I really can''t say anything bad about.
