Danny Pucillo
Danny began his musical training in elementary school in Mount Vernon, New York. Originally, he wanted to play the trumpet, but a trip to New York City''s Capitol Theater changed his mind. When the film ended the band rose from the stage and young Danny saw Gene Krupa silhouetted in the spotlight. His love was drumming from that day on.
Danny remembers as a youth, setting up his drum kit by the jukebox and keeping time as Charlie Barnet''s orchestra played "Cherokee." One of the highlights of Danny''s life came ten years later when he landed a job with Charlie Barnet''s Orchestra and played that song as a member the band.
Danny lived and worked in New York until the end of 1969. He ended his residence on the East Coast by playing a New Year''s Eve gig with Andy Williams. On New Year''s Day, he and his family moved to the West Coast.
Since moving to the Southern California, Danny has worked extensively in the studios and has recorded with some of the biggest names in music, including: Peggy Lee, the Jackson Five, Claude Thornhill, Joe Pass, Ray Brown, Frank Rosolino, Supersax, Johnny Carson, Ed Sullivan, Jerry Lewis, and Milton Berle. He has also recorded on hit records for the Jackson Five, and the Supremes. Danny Pucillo currently endorses Paiste Cymbals.
Most recently, Danny Pucillo has focused on leading his own group. The Danny Pucillo Quartet just released a CD entitled, You Know What I Mean. The release contains four of Danny Pucillo''s original compositions and five standards. The group plays frequent live gigs in the Los Angeles area and has received favorable reviews in Cadence Magazine and the Los Angeles Jazz Scene.
Danny has five children, three of whom are musical. His oldest is also a drummer, another plays guitar, and the third is a contractor who plays drums for pleasure.
