When it comes to great music, it doesn’t get any better than this. Diana Starr, has certainly proven herself as an accomplished singer, songwriter, arranger, producer and accompanist recording from her own studio, “Starr Tracks”.
This CD is a must on any road trip. For those who haven’t heard her perform live, soul is deep in the heart of this girl from the east side of the river. Living 5 minutes from the St. Louis Arch on the Illinois side of the river, she is proud to be from the same stomping grounds as Tina Turner, Chuck Berry and now Gretchen Wilson. Coming from a musical family has further inspired her in taking her music to another level. As a writer, it was in 1981 when Diana was first acknowledged as a songwriter when she became Quarterfinalist in the Eighth Annual American Songwriting Competition with “Mr. Moonlight”, and the following year won Honorable Mention with “You’ve Gone Too Far” proving her writing skills at such an early age.
After recording her “Paradise” CD, she was encouraged to enter the “Blueberry Hill” Songwriting competition in St. Louis, Missouri where all but one of her 13 songs from the CD placed with “Just A Heartbeat Away” naming her 1st place winner in the pop category. Of the other 12 songs, each one placed in the top 5 and/or top ten. Her song entries covered Rock, Pop, General, R&B, & Jazz. While being diversified in her style of writing, she also wears several different hats in the studio as well. As she has stated, “I could actually live in my home studio. I love Pro Tools software and enjoy creating, editing and arranging my music while hearing the entire evolution that takes place as I record every track from the beginning and through to the end of production”.
When listening to her songs and describing her songwriting ability, one word comes to mind, “Cameleon”. She is able to adapt to so many styles. When asked who she feels has inspired her the most as a writer, there is one name at the top of the list; Diane Warren.
Over the years she has written several commercials for radio and television locally and regionally. When asked, she stated, “There is no better kick than to create beautiful music and God willing, I could do this forever”. As she laughs, she becomes serious for a moment and speaks of her mother and brother, both of whom have passed away recently. She said, "In life, there is nothing more important than love, and I have dedicated this CD to my mother Ruby Starr and my extremely talented brother Eddie Starr, both of whom have taught me so much about what love is."
She has just finished a screenplay called “Timeless” with her great friend and screenwriter Gil Woodrome which features 14 of her original songs. The Screenplay takes place in the late 40s, beginning briefly in Chicago and then takes you to St. Louis Missouri and East Saint Louis Illinois during the jazz and blues, swing post war era where the story then unfolds“ If you happen to love that Frank Sinatra Jazz and Blues Post War sound of the late 40s, her upcoming “Timeless” (originals) CD soundtrack will be one worth waiting for.
