I''m ex-Clubfoot Orchestra/Sundogs member Dick Deluxe and I''m back after a decade long absence with a new CD of original material.

Happily I was able to coax my working "Revue" to record with me-a group of monsters all! My co-producer and MVP of the project Ted Politzer arranged and sang the backup vocals, played great guitars acoustic and electric (the slide!)and kept the project focused and on time. Teddy and I spent years working together in the Sundogs and I''m thrilled each time I get to work with him.

Bassist Mac Cridlin is yet more serendipity. His work has graced everyone from the Dillards to Sylvester to Patti laBelle to Elvin Bishop to Stephen Bishop (yup that''s him on On and On !)and the list goes forever. A true master and funky, funky, funky!

Fuzzy "Furioso" Oxendine is legendary not only in punk circles for his recently rereleased work with Roky Erikson but also for such SF institutions as the Sons of Champlin, Moby Grape and countless others. He''s my Jim Keltner-simply the best.

I roped my long time pal and Revue staple Steve Mackay in for a tune as well. Steve is the sax man with the Stooges who have happily reunited with Mike Watt on bass. Never fail to miss a chance to see him either with Iggy, me (!) or the Violent Femmes.

I wrote the tunes and am singing in the deep voice and playing a lot of acoustic and electric guitars.

Special guest Sean Carney of Columbus, Ohio juiced up Death Rattle and Sugar Hurricane. He''s one of the finest young musicians in America and the guy who kicked me in the butt to resume playing-thanks Sean for eveything.

Finally old partner and Americana songwriting master Joe Paquin sang some harmonies as did my fabulous daughter Zoelle-her recording debut!

My thoughts are I wanted to make a CD representative of my live act and where I''m at musically these days. I grew up in Texas and fortunately among the first aritsts I saw play in intimate dive bar situations were Lightnin'' Hopkins and Townes van Zandt.

That influence has guided me throughout my career and I think this ablum reflects both the spirit of the troubador and the bluesman in a contemporary way. I guess I fugure after a 30 year apprenticeship in the American dive bar arts it''s my turn to say something!

SONG GUIDE
Don''t Borax the Borax Man/Dick Deluxe
2005 Content Conduit

Right on the Money- Texas dance hall shuffle. A small tale in which the scars of experience are overcome by the excitement of new love.

At A Word Country soul ballad. Simple adult love tale with nice acoustic slide flourishes.

Death Rattle Country funk. Fatalistic love gone wrong featuring smoking rhythm section and menacing percussion.

Sugar Hurricane Back to the Texas dance hall. A "textured" depiction of a heroine who will "carve you like a pear and not even care". The fellas are grooving big time on this one.

Snowing in Oakland 8 bar doghouse blues. In the manner of the cuckolded bluesman of so many great Lowell Fulsom/Johnny Guitar Watson tunes of yore. Steve Mackay of Stooges fame chips in some dirty sax.

Lonely Boy More country soul. A lamentation on the process of Lonely Boy becoming Lonely Man. Great slide from T Politzer and funky groove via the bottom end.

Spotted a Hole in the Sun Updated talking blues country funk. Apocalyptic humor in which our hero lets it all fly prior to the realization the end may not be quite so near.

Stay Away From the Blues Slamming blues. In the manner of the great cocky frontmen, our hero issues a cautionary warning to the young ladies in attendance.

Baby Tells Me So Swinging Texas shuffle. A somewhat less confident tale in which our man hopes to advance the timetable by which his affections are welcomed.

I Love You Country blues Piedmont division. Risking banality this one is simple and direct with a fabulous second line groove via my monster rhythm section.

Cullowhee Epic acoustic! Recounting the shameful events surrounding the Trail of Tears and the aftermath.
