On June 9th, 2008, Alan Nakagawa, Peter Watkinson and Kio Griffith played together for the first time. The music, in a garage in Los Angeles’ Koreatown, was improvised and eclectic. Although fans of pop idioms, they drew upon their love of experimental sound of the likes of John Cage and Edgar Varese; jazz musicians such as Ornette Coleman and Miles Davis; and rock music such as Radiohead and Deerhoof. The three musicians also come out of a visual arts background and therefore see themselves drawing compositions, painting sound and sculpting rhythms. What results musically and is documented on this CD, is a cumulative process, a layering of sounds, an embracing of silence, of their enthusiasm for music and often their delinquent humor.
