DEVIN RICHARDS Celebrates The Release Of His Debut CD "MY OWN VOICE" Live at Metropolitan Room.

Devin, seen in the current issue of Ebony Magazine, just finished appearing in the workshop of "Pamela''s First Musical" by Tony Award Winners, David Zippel and Wendy Wasserstein and Cy Coleman for New World Stages.
He appeared along side Broadway Stars Lila Coogan, Karen Mason and Karen Ziemba. "Pamela''s" was part of the National Alliance for Musical Theater''s Festival of New Musicals.

A major voice over talent in the industry, Devin is the voice of "Dwayne Forge" in the best selling video game of all time "Grand Auto Theft IV."
His ten Broadway credits include 110 in the Shade, The Life, Passion, Victor/Victoria, Smokey Joe''s Cafe and the "Tale of Two Cities".

Backgroud: Although conceived in New York, Devin was born in Greensboro, NC. His mother being afraid of the doctors in NY drove down to Greensboro just to have him and then brought him back. His mother raised him in Queens for the first 8 years of his life. Then in order to be closer to the family, they moved down to North Carolina where he stayed through College. After leaving College he moved to Florida and performed there for four years. Next step, New York! Moved there and within months got a job in the musical "Starlight Express", in Germany, where he had always wanted to live, having grown up around Germans all his life. After finishing his job in Germany, he moved to Paris (another one of his dreams) where he lived for a year. Then due to difficulties finding work there he came back to NY where within a month he began his Broadway career. Since then he has appeared in eight Broadway shows over eleven years including original casts of revivals, "Wonderful Town", "Carousel", "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Pajama Game", original casts of "Victor/Victoria" and "Seussical:The Musical" plus Broadway shows, "Smokey Joe''s Cafe " and "The Life".
Last season Devin appeared in the Tony Award nominated Broadway revival of "110 in the Shade"
starring Audra McDonald after which he was cast as the second black Javert ever in "Les Miserables" at the North Shore Music Theatre.

In the spring of 2008 he participated in concert at Carnegie Hall and at Lincoln Center with the NY Philharmonic, while also performing in the press launch with Elton John for Broadway bound "Billy Elliot" plus readings of the new Broadway bound musicals "Shrek", "Ever After" and "First Wives Club" by Holland/Dozier/Holland and Rupert Holmes.
Devin also appeared this past season as "Black Frasier" on the TV comedy 30 Rock.
And, if that wasn''t enough he also recorded music for the second interactive children''s DVD, Eebee''s Adventures, which will launched in FAO Schwartz & Toys ''R'' Us this past spring.
Devin has sung and performed with a plethora of stars including, Gladys Knight, Lou Rawls, Harry Connick Jr., Julie Andrews, Marilyn Mae, Rosie O''Donnell, Audra MacDonald, Aaron Carter, Rick Springfield, Pam Tillis, Gloria Gaynor, Joan Jett, Cathy Rigby, and Tony Orlando

Liner Notes by Tony Winner, Audra McDonald
"The night Devin invited me to his debut cabaret at the Metropolitan room, I discovered so much more than the solid booming bass baritone I had come to know. Devin was engaging, funny, powerful and touching. A true solo artist. I was thrilled by his innovative repertoire and the ability to make each song truly his own. I was struck by his uncanny ability to connect with the audience in both song and in witty relaxed banter. And then there is the voice. It is a voice with so many beautiful rich colors and such incredible range. He has all of the booming bass baritone depth of Paul Robeson as well as the vocal agility and style of Al Jarreau. Yet it’s all his organic sound. It was his voice. It was truly an evening of discovery for all who were there. For me it was discovery of a part of my friend I had not known. For the audience it was discovery of a wonderful solo artist. And for Devin it was the discovery of his own voice. And what a spectacular voice it is… "

Critics have said:
"Taking an enormous risk, Richards ended the evening with "Ol'' Man River" and let it simply soar, singing it with all the power and emotion the song could have. For an encore, he returned to sing White''s "Best of Times," letting his audience catch their collective breaths, and letting the concert end on a high note. As debuts go, this was an impressive one, and may this cabaret be the first of many. Mr. Richards has talent and charisma to spare, and certainly belongs in the spotlight."
