Drew Grow has been on the Portland indie music scene for nearly a decade. Katrina Skalland, who is from the band Deluxe, comes from Sacramento, CA, now living in Portland. Drew and Katrina Skalland met in Sacramento, while Grow’s old band Careen were on tour. Katrina loved the music, ‘felt like she was watching history in the making’, and the band went out to an all hours breakfast joint. Drew and Katrina ended up talking early into the morning about music and The Fountainhead while the rest of the band was at the party, or sleeping in the van.
Katrina’s songwriting, her perspective, and urgent voice made it a perfect fit, in Drew’s mind, for them to collaborate on an EP.
Along with Grow’s band, The Pastors’ Wives, in two successive weekend sessions at Drew’s house, and a few days tracking and mixing with Evan Hodge in Medford, OR, Sow to Sow was completed. Katrina wrote four of the songs (Tracks 2,3,6 & 7), while Drew wrote three songs (Tracks 1,4,5). They collaborated on each others’ songs with The Pastors’ Wives.
