Introducing Godsend

Willie Raphael Riviore, the only son of Alice Faye Grayson, was born 23 years ago in Richmond, California. He did not grow up with a father figure in the home, yet somehow he knew he was destined to travel a path somewhat different from the others around him. His destiny began to take shape in year 2000 when he decided to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Armed with the understanding of the free gift, Willie offered himself for the work of the heavenly Father and prayed regularly that God would someday send him. Willie soon adopted the name “Godsend” as a reminder of the power of answered prayer.

In 2002, at the suggestion of his (then) youth pastor, Godsend penned his first rap song for a church youth event. Much to his surprise, Godsend found that he was blessed with a gift to express himself through the hip-hop/rap medium. He began honing his craft via “free-style” street battles throughout the Richmond area and quickly found himself rapping more outside the church than in it. However, in 2003, the Spirit of God moved again in his life, and within a year, Godsend was rapping with the Bay Area based group, Turf Ministries. Recalling his time with Turf Ministries, Godsend says, “At that time I really didn’t have my own style, I was just piggy-backin’ on everybody else.” Nevertheless, Turf Ministries served as a fertile training ground for the quickly developing young rapper.

After two years of work in the trenches, Turf Ministries came across a ministry and a pastor that challenged their thinking about life and the Word of God. Little did Godsend know that Pastor Eric P. Williams and the teaching ministry of Bay Area Word of Faith Fellowship would produce a profound change in the way he saw himself and deeply affect his attitude towards life in general. Looking back on that pivotal moment, Godsend says, “Initially our objective was to hook up with Pastor E and the Zoe4Life Recording Studio to see if he could help further Turf Ministries. I never thought that meeting would significantly impact my life in the way that it did.” He said he was so moved by what he heard and saw that he decided to attend Bay Area Word of Faith Fellowship’s annual Men’s Conference soon thereafter. It was during the conference that he first learned about kingdom living.

Godsend further explains, “Coming to Bay Area Word of Faith Fellowship was in itself an incredibly eye opening experience. I not only learned what the Bible says about the Kingdom of God, I also learned about the behavior of royalty and exactly who I am as a believer in the Kingdom. Once I could understand what the will of God is for my life, I began to clearly see that we (believers) are not mere men and women.” It is this growing awareness of the Kingdom of God and the God-kind of life that led to the creation of the album, “Kingdom Sounds.”

Kingdom Sounds is the manifestation of what the “kingdom” sounds like. Produced by Timprelle, the album features music ministers Lee Majors, Gamble, Shalom, from the Bay Area and Predator from Miami, Florida. The album, slated for release on September 20, 2008, from Zoe4Life Productions, is not a collection of familiar styles or mimicked beats from the secular world, but a riveting and lively expression celebrating the spirit man. If you ask Godsend what he thought was the single one thing that sets Kingdom Sounds apart from any of his other albums, he’d say quite frankly, “There is no ‘I’ in this album. It is totally ‘kingdom.’ There is no struggle or struggling expressed anywhere in it because believers living in the kingdom, by faith, live a victorious life. This is positive music!”

Kingdom Sounds is indeed the audible expression of the God-kind of life, in abundance, to the full, until it overflows. You hear it in the song entitled, “Stole From Me,” featuring Shalom, which celebrates the body of Christ taking back all that the enemy stole from man. You hear it in “So Long,” a song that represents the departure from the world’s way of doing things, to accepting the ways of the Kingdom. After listening to Kingdom Sounds you can believe whole-heartedly when Godsend enthusiastically admits that his two-year marriage to his wife Erica was a major factor in the overall tone of the album. “She represents all that is the best in me and that inspires me to be the best I can be. The kingdom life is successful living--hundred-fold living.”

Finally, when asked what was the purpose for making Kingdom Sounds, Godsend simply replies, “I want people to understand that the power of the Holy Spirit is real, and that the Kingdom of God is real.” No super-spiritual clichés here, no wretched me fillers, all 17-tracks embodying the album, Kingdom Sounds, explicitly address the entire being; Spirit, Soul, and Body. Upon hearing this album we’re sure you will agree that Kingdom Sounds is truly a Godsend.
