The Vinegar Creek Constituency formed mostly by accident on the main stage of Lancaster’s Chameleon Club. We didn’t try it, folks, honestly. A promotor friend wanted an opening act for acoustic guitar samurai Larry Keel and I wanted to see the show and drink beer for free, so there we were: a lifelong rock’n’roll singer-songwriter, a classically trained double bassist, and some smokin’ bluegrass pickers who’ve been at it since before I knew what "it" was. The group’s traditional bluegrass instrumentation proved surprisingly flexible: besides high-voltage bluegrass, we do a variety of originals, some of the old rockabilly stuff I grew up listening to, classic Hank and Cash-style country, and a few punk rock ditties just to make the grass purists squirm. No one really knows what’s next, but if I have anything to say about it- and I’m pretty sure I do- there’ll be a few surprises, and it’ll make you dance your ass off. -LD
