I''m a stone-cold mamacita
With an ex-pat hippie papa
We got a lot of terra cotta
And we''re a long way from home
These lyrics from one of Robin Aigner''s best-loved songs serve as a good introduction into her world. With a style that''s equal parts folk, roots and Americana with an urban kick, Robin''s music-featuring her warm, sensual voice, sweetly finger-picked guitar playing and rich imagery-lulls you in, holds your attention and takes you a long way from home. Is it hypnotism? Some kinda folk magic? Whatever it is, it sure works.
Her songs, while partly grounded in that old-timey, classic folk tradition, also offer something completely unique and compelling. Her arresting vocals, intelligent wit and wordplay, and hook-y melodies assure that listeners are humming her tunes on their subway rides. Her songs celebrate lost cowboys, cryin'' outlaws, lonely troubadours.
"Robin is a well-crafted songwriter and charming performer on the rise. I am interested to see what she comes up with next."
-Lach, NY AntiFolk Founder
"Aigner manages to make the compass needle on a familiar folk song quiver, suggesting that something unexpected-and interesting-lurks nearby."
-Larry Parnass, Northampton Gazette
