ARTIST''S WORDS ABOUT THIS ALBUM
In my deepest core I''ve come to know (with the help of many) that we are all spiritual beings. So the question for me is not "Are we spiritual beings?" but has become, "Am I conscious of the fact that I am ultimately a spiritual being? Are we spiritually conscious or spiritually unconscious?" The answer for me has become, "Yes!" - and some times "no." It is natural to move in an out of spiritual consciousness until, more and more (through conscious effort on our parts), spiritual consciousness becomes the predominant state.
Some people fear becoming spiritually conscious perhaps because spiritual consciousness is a place of great power. They (myself included) fear that power and perhaps don''t know what to do with it. Maybe they don''t want to deal with the responsibility it brings. How hard is it some times to, in our spiritual power, simply reach out and hold another person or to say "I love you"? Perhaps dogmatic beliefs have convinced us that we are corrupt and imperfect by nature, that there is only one entity perfect and pure and it ain''t us.
Well, I agree that there is only one entity perfect and pure - us! When we are in our spiritual consciousness and the illusion of form becomes less important or disappears all together, we understand that we are all this single loving, perfect and pure entity. Underneath the deceptive and illusive (still in a way, sacred) surface play of opposites and differences, we''re all made up of the same formless, vibrant, energetic oneness.
Some call this oneness "God". Some say that God is love. Some people use the word "love" for the Hawai''ian word "aloha". So do I - when I''m in a hurry. But, just as the word "God" points to infinitely more than any word can convey or any idea can contain, so does aloha. This is my personal take on aloha:
Aloha does mean love but that of the most pure and unconditional type. It also incorporates, but is not limited to, the concepts of kindness, compassion, generosity, forgiveness, balance, tenderness, consideration, wisdom, oneness, openness, honesty, sincerity, fairness, integrity, humor, vibrancy, connection and just about any other concept that helps to reconnect us with spiritual consciousness. When we greet people with "aloha" what we really mean is "Let this energy surround and fill us. Let it guide our words, thoughts and actions". When we use the word "aloha" as "good-bye", we really are saying, "Let this energy go with you, be close to you, guide you, protect you and continue to connect us."
My hope in helping to put Nā Oli Aloha out is to remind us all, myself especially, that we are all always connected on the surface, in this world of form and, on the deeper level, in this world of spirit. We need to remember in a time when disconnection, war, greed, fear, lack, loss, and the like seem to be dominating the collective consciousness once again. Many people have tried and many continue to try to bring this awareness to light. I just do it in my own way, that''s all, the best way I know how. Nā Oli Aloha - Aloha Chants For A New Age may very well help to usher in a new age of permanent spiritual consciousness. Hmmmmmm, imagine that.
