Details:
The eagerly awaited third album from Rome Burns carries on from where the last album Non-Specific Ghost Stories left off.

Yes, there is a more mature sound (possibly helped by the inclusion of full-time bassist Tori Pink) and yes the new digipak looks enviably fantastic but this is still the very same band who when last interviewed by the BBC confessed that they had to constantly try out different sounds because they got bored easily.

The majority of the music is post-punk/electro in flavour but that seems too easy a description when there are tracks like the metal-riffed “Rebecca Eureka” sitting next to the cold electronica of “Then Janus” and the jangling surf-punk of “Tears of the Avalanche girl”.
Furthermore, despite a certain obscurity (they confess to being ''...a little vague'' in “The Writing''s on the Wall”) the songs are essentially all narratives about religion and science.

The album’s title, The Static Murmur, is itself a line from “Rebecca Eureka” - a song that is either about an ancient radar unit or about a relationship... I suppose it could well be about both subjects. Why not? The band has always thrived as a schizophrenic entity and appears to have selfishly written an album for themselves that may well have a mass appeal…
