A Gemini by sign and an artist by soul, Hierro is a flamenco guitarist of a new generation. Drawing from flamenco, jazz and acoustic, his music combines diverse influences cast into the singular shapes of the arte flamenco – the solea, the fandangos, the alegrias and the rumba. Each piece follows the style of the flamenco canon, but also departs from the traditional forms in emotion and feeling, imparting a modern feel and an open touch to Hierro’s music. Known for his “iron style”, undisturbed by large audiences, and for his technical mastery, fellow musicians jokingly called him “iron man” (Hierro), a stage name under which Hierro is back with his new album Sunset Colors, featuring some of the most moving music for flamenco guitar.
The story of Sunset Colors is that of a man walking in the twilight shadows and watching the sunset as he recedes farther and farther in memories. Recollections, emotions and shadows mingle and intertwine as changing cloud colors and moods come together in the evening sky. And as sun-colored hues change from the passionate red to orange to purple and blue, so do the moods and thoughts in the music. Sometimes sudden like yellow sparks, sometimes peaceful like a light in the distant sea, and sometimes tinted with the deepest hues of the blue, emotions and colors blend into one until the firy mirror of the horizon becomes a mirror of the inner fire of the soul.
