Details:
One Silver Astronaut is a band of ambitious, hopeful artists and musicians attempting to create something beautiful together. Originally from Michigan, Shane Mills has been writing and performing in Los Angeles-area bands for the last few years. Teaming with local powerhouse drummer and long-time friend, Nick Amoroso, and co-producer David Newton (The Mighty Lemon Drops, The Little Ones), Mills recorded and released the first One Silver Astronaut album, Scientific American, in 2006, playing most of the instruments himself. With this fresh and latest lineup, Mills has assembled a stellar cast, as diverse as they are brilliant. This band is comprised of a math major, a journalism major, a microbiology major, and 3 music-related majors. While none have amassed much resume-worthy music experience as of yet, their ground-breaking work in One Silver Astronaut will undoubtedly render such accolades. One Silver Astronaut''s sound has been expanded in the current version. Full-time female vocalist and part-time glockenspiel-ist Paula Pradit has been added, along with violinist Wyatt Sum. A dash of analog synth remains part of the ''the Astronaut''s sound, along with frequent bursts of the equally retro yet timeless sound of a Rhodes; these duties are now aptly performed by keyboardist/technology guy and East L.A. product, Gabriel Venegas. Filling out and solidifying the lineup are a couple of North-westerners. Drummer CJ Martin, from Portland, Oregon and bassist Patrick Jones from Seattle, Washington, actually knew each other growing up before finally meeting up in L.A. and joining the band. In fact, it was Martin who recommended Jones for the gig. The band has already performed and passed initial road tests by heading out for a short stint this summer, playing the great American cities of Amarillo, Seattle, and San Francisco. Success has been declared as they are still a band, still friends, and have not gone bankrupt, playing to an average crowd size of 200 and having completely sold out of t-shirts already. This official band bio will remain short for now as is the history of the band itself. And that is exactly what is exciting about them. This is a new frontier for all of them. They surge ahead at full speed in their quest to craft imperfect, quirky, contemplative, independent pop songs that are pure of heart and hopefully of some redeemable artistic value.
