The "We Will Meet Again" project, featuring the Rev. Dr. Stephen Tyrone Thornton Memorial Mass Choir, is a musical tribute to the life and legacy of one of an anointed singer, choir director, mentor, pastor, husband, father and friend. The choir, which bears his name, was organized through the efforts of family and friends and some of the most anointed participants worldwide after Rev. Thornton''s life ended tragically on October 21, 2002 as a result of a horrific traffic accident.
Rev. Thornton was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Cascade, Va. Where here served as youth director. He was also a Sunday school teacher, choir director and a Deacon. After being called into the ministry he soon became the pastor of River Zion Baptist Church in Blanch, N.C. During this time organized the Caswell County Mass Choir, directed the Martinsville High School Gospel Choir and sung in Together in Christ Non-denominational Choir. His church grew along with the growth and fellowship of many churches that he came in contact with. After seven years he became the Sr. Pastor of Phillips Chapel Baptist in Winston-Salem, N.C. Although time only allowed him to be there six months the already large church membership doubled. He worked with the city''s mayor and many local pastors. Walls were torn down and God was working. God is still working and there is much evidence of Dr. Thornton through out the country.
In an effort to continue Rev. Thornton''s dream of providing financial breakthroughs and destroying educational barriers for youth, proceeds from this musical project go to fund the Thornton Scholarship Foundation. Professionally recorded, this project showcases the contributions of numerous nationally-recognized and gifted voices. The "We Will Meet Again" project features all original, divinely-inspired tracks which were written by Rev. Thornton''s older brother, Kenneth Thornton. . All songs were written during a very trying time. Kenneth became ill. He was diagnosed with a near fatal disease. During this time he was out of work for eighteen months. God blessed him and his pen. The title track was written just before a hospital stay. The Only Way to look is up was written while bed stricken flat on his back. All the other songs have deep meaning. Additionally, partners on this project highlight the spiritually-enriched talents of some of the most talented and renowned musicians and lead vocalists in the country, including LaDonna Mole, former soloist with Rev. John P. Kee and New Life and Minister Nigel Andrews, featured soloist with James Bignon and Deliverance. Dion Owens, Walter Johnson and the Renaissance and The Promise also lent their musical expertise to the success of "We Will Meet Again." Additionally, one of the greatest contributions and best kept secrets of the south are featured on the project . . . the band! Consisting of Cedric Thompson, Calvin Napper, Reggie Graves, "Monty" Robertson and "Will" Morrison, the band really played remarkably. We have done interviews with many newspapers and radio stations. We have been review by Kenny G of GospelCrib Magazine and made it to the top of the independent chat. We also have been reviewed by Gospel Flava Magazine. Stan North says " We Will Meet Again comes along as an unexpected gem and may just qualify as one of the nicest independent projects out there..."
