An east coast 80’s child of a poet and musician, Raven was taught how to count by her father by measuring time and bars. Her mother helped her to master her freestyle skills early on by simply playing the rhyme game. “That was my favorite thing to do, she would play the rhyme game with me for hours” gloats Raven.
Her eclectic musical style is influenced by her fathers Greek music, her Grandpa’s love for Billy Holiday, Frank Sinatra, and the Big Bands, her mother’s love for Prince, Rod Stewart, Madonna, Queen, Stevie B, and her generation’s music Hip Hop - Slick Rick, Grand Master Flash, Run DMC, LL Cool J, and Public Enemy.
“The first time I saw a cipher (rhythm freestyle battle), I must’ve been 10 or 11, I was fascinated. It was love at first sight for me!” states Raven. With a lot of great lyricists for inspiration outside of her home, like Rakim, Nas, KRS 1,
Tu Pac, and Common, Mc Raven’s Freestyling has become the nature of her beast. “My need to perform never ceases!”
With her musical and lyrical versatility, Raven flows smoothly between winning multiple national and international, male dominated world of Freestyle battles, performing a commissioned poetic tribute for Latin Grammy Award winner Nestor Torres, inspiring young girls in schools and Juvenile Centers, performing at countless community based benefits and provoking her audience to tears at famed Open Mic venues.
