JAZZ: Smooth Jazz, GOSPEL: Contemporary Gospel

Details:
Pianist and songwriter Reginald Reid joins with his sister, singer Regina Reid, to form The Reid Project. Their first Christian smooth jazz offering is entitled "LifeSongs."

Reginald and Regina are both accomplished musicians, Regina''s specialty being her clear, versatile vocals, and Reginald''s being his prolific songwriting and rare pianistic talent. Reginald''s musical compositions, delivered with a jazz hand, provide the foundation for the album, with Regina''s smooth vocals completing the framework for TRP''s sound. Reginald occasionally ventures out to provide beautiful lead vocals.

Lyrically, the album is a collaborative effort, featuring intimate reflections on the Christian experience. Topics such as faith, spiritual crisis and marital distress are given a personal and tender look, with the message of God''s love and grace being the recurring refrain in each song. While their style is uniquely theirs, the influence of musical greats George Duke, Joe Sample and Oleta Adams is evident in the siblings'' approach to gospel.

While this is Reginald''s first album bearing his name on the front, his work appears on numerous gospel recordings, where he has worn the hats of producer, songwriter, keyboard player and background vocalist. Among his credits are albums by Maurette Brown-Clarke and Virtue, Verity Records'' cross-genre "Bridges" and its Christmas series, as well as productions for several independent artists.

Outside the studio, he has performed and toured with some of gospel music''s most popular artists. He was a member of Grammy winner CeCe Winans'' band for six years before relocating from Nashville, Tenn. back to his home state of Maryland. He has also played with Donnie McClurkin, Anointed, Kim Burrell and emerging talent Lorree K. Slye of Richard Smallwood''s Vision.

Regina has been a duo partner with fellow Maryland vocalist Lauri Preston since 1994. In 1999, they released their first album, "Our Praise," under the simple moniker Lauri & Regina (also available on CDBaby). The album, which was produced by Reginald, couples his original compositions with Lauri & Regina''s innovative vocal stylings.

Reginald and Regina are both graduates of Pine Forge Academy and Oakwood College. Reginald''s training includes 10 years of private study, while Regina developed her gift as a featured soloist in various groups and choirs.

The Reid Project was recognized by the Washington Area Music Association with a 2002 Wammie Award nomination in the Gospel/Inspirational, Duo/Group category.

Though packaged in what may be a slightly unconventional wrapping for sacred music, the messages in "LifeSongs" reflect the familiar and traditional themes of God''s love and faithfulness.
