Different, unique, unorthodox, abstract...these words are all worthy by defintion,
yet still they pale in comparison.
If there is truly one word to describe him, that one word would be "undescribable".
Javan "The Mask" Mclean, the man masked as The Mask, simply refuses to be pigeonholed
or confined by words. His identity is based upon "not" having an indentity,
therefore he is dubed The Mask.
To give you A better understanding of his ambiguous personalty, when asked to describe
where he comes from, he states : I come from A place far away from here,
A place located somewhere over there... in the middle of nowhere...
I come from A place called "nowhere" ... A place that is naked of an identity
because it existance dresses its presence up in no wear...
To simply put it, he comes from outside the box!
Born november 3, 1980 in kingston, Jamaica Javan Mclean, otherwise known as "The Mask"
spent his early childhood years living the typical povish lifestyle, under the restraining
treatments of his overly stirct aunt "winsome", who plays the roll of the evil stepmother.
from A chracter stand point , responsibilities came at an early age. with no parents in the mix,
discipline and obedience was strictly enforced.
barracated beyound the dull border of restrictions, as a child, silence and loneliness soon
became the mask best friend. In fact, It was silence and loneliness that laid the first foundamental
building block in the developement of the mask''s mysterious and obscure personality.
One might often hear the mask coin the phrase "I Live outside the world, inside my head"...
well, to gain understanding for the true meaning of that phrase is to gain the understanding
of the mask''s childhood. mask would often claim that, growing up as A child his imagination
was not only his best friend but also his home away from home.
contrary to the youthful playing nature of most kids, mask would often spend most of his
days daydreaming and fantasizing. it was then that he developed A very imaginative
and fasinating mind, that he would later adopt in both his music and poetry.
In 1989, mask, his sister, and his cousin escaped the hardship of Jamaica
in pursuit of A better lifestyle, arriving in maimi,FL where he would live as an illegel
imagrant for the next 12 years under the tutlege of his grandmother Icyline Smith
unlike most kids who had the luxury of Pre K, kenderguarding, 1st grade, and even 2nd
grade, mask started school in the 3rd grade. due to his age and his inability to attend
school in jamaica. for mask his 1st true quest for knowledge began in the 3rd grade.
Also, it was in the 3rd grade when mask faced his first true set back in the jouney of
life. failing to pass the 3rd grade, due largely in part of his late start of school.
A 3rd grader with the knowledge of a 1st grader, mask was at A huge disadvantage.
A disadvantage inwhich he quickly used to his advantage by equaling and surpassing
many of his peers to become one of the brighter students in his high school.
often quiet ,shy, and mummed it wasnt until 1992 as A fifth grader
when mask discovered the hidden gems that lied within he
voice, as he witten and performed for the first time A flavorful antidrugs song at the
D.A.R.E program graduation ceremony.
After graduating high school in the year 2000, the mask has been parading around
the streets of south florida honing and developing his skills as A poet, an M.C. ,
and producer. with three independent solo albums and A continuous immeccable
work ethic the mask is sure to be on the door steps of getting his big break!
