Details:
Renelle West is a spiritual/inspirational songwriter, vocalist/musician, and published writer. She has been a musician with a showband on the road, a high school and college teacher, a writer for a marketing company, a freelance writer for magazines and newspapers, and a technical writer and editor in corporations. She has been a musician and speaker in New Thought churches since the early 1980''s, serving as Minister of Music in Florida at the Melbourne Unity Church and the Unity Church of Central Brevard in Merritt Island.
West''s own eclectic life story is reflected in the songs she writes. With an undergraduate degree in English and a Master''s in Education with a special emphasis in theater from the University of Kentucky, she taught English in high schools in Lexington, Kentucky, and in colleges in Kentucky and Florida. For two years she was an instructor of speech and theater at Kentucky State University. She has directed and acted in theater productions at Studio Players in Lexington and at Jenny Wiley State Park near Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
As a published writer, her many articles in magazines and newspapers cover a broad range of topics. From her regular column in the Muzzleloader Magazine in the 1970''s, she was known as the "Erma Bombeck of Muzzleloading" for her humorous stories that made light of her band leader husband''s adventures as a buckskinner that inadvertently made him a celebrity. For five months in the 1990''s, she wrote all the articles, from cruise ships to bios, for the national award-winning Port Canaveral Magazine. Throughout the 90''s, she was a technical writer in corporations and the director of publications in a marketing company.
Through the 1970''s West sang and played keyboards, slide trombone, and banjo in a show band on the road. After her band left the road, she and her husband settled in Colorado Springs, where they worked at the Officer''s Club at Peterson Air Force Base and in nightclubs in Old Colorado City. However, being settled wasn''t a comfortable life style for West, so she went back on the road to perform in piano bars throughout the country for another two years. In the mid-''80''s, West settled in Brevard County, Florida, but continued to perform for months at a time on the road, chalking up credits along the way for performing for months at Hilton Head, South Carolina, and the Thousand Islands Resort in New York.
For more than 20 years, West has been encouraging people to write their life stories and guiding them through the process. She facilitates life story workshops and retreats, gives presentations on writing life stories, and facilitates life story writing groups. She is also a certified instructor of "Creating Your Life," a workshop that teaches participants how to apply the creative process to the creation of their lives. This course was developed by Robert Fritz, an internationally known author, and corporate consultant who has studied the process of creating.
In September, 2004, after living in Melbourne, Florida, off and on, for nearly 20 years, West recently moved to Canton, Ohio, to help her family. She speaks in churches, gives concerts of her music, and continues to write songs.
Her CD, "Spiritland," was released in November 2004. Her next CD, "Face to Face; Meditations for Spiritual Guidance," to be released in December 2005, features three of West''s songs, along with abundancy counselor, Paula Langguth Ryan''s spoken meditations.
