"It''s About Time" this cd came into being! This project started 25 years ago in 1980 when I recorded many of my songs in a downtown San Francisco recording studio with sound engineer, Steve Shapiro. "I only had enough money for one take per song", so we gave it our best shot and played them through one at a time. The musicians were, and are, all friends, John Bacchini (bass), John Geraty (drums), Jim Lawrie (guitar), and John Goodman (stand-up bass). At one point, I switched with Steve as sound engineer when he decided to lay down his impromptu flute tracks on my songs. The sessions went well. All the musicians had a good time. Two friends were also present in the studio, a fellow musician Brad James (I borrowed Brad''s guitar for part of the 1980 sessions), and my friend (later to be my wife) Randa.

I paid and extra $50 to keep the 2 inch master tapes and those masters sat in my closet collecting dust for years waiting to be listened too. In the early 1990''s, I decided to transfer the 2 inch masters to the then current ½ inch tape technology. In completed the transfer and again the tapes sat for another 15 years.

In late 2004, I received a chance phone call from Brad James. Brad and I fell out of touch 25 years ago, and his call came out of the blue. He asked me if I remembered him, and I responded by asking if he still had his 12 string guitar! We arranged lunch. When I met Brad he decided to take me to see an old friend....Steve Shapiro. I hadn''t seen Brad or Steve since the 1980 recording sessions. Instead of going out to lunch, we sat for hours reminiscing and catching up. Brad had recorded his own cd, and Steve now had his own recording studio, Steve Shapiro Music, which had some of the same top quality equipment we recorded on 25 years ago. Displayed at the entrance to the studio was an old familiar flute placed gently on a music stand. It was the flute Steve played on my songs 25 years earlier.

I always knew I wanted to make a cd of my old songs and the setting was perfect to do just that. In early 2005, I spent quality time with Steve remixing the songs we recorded 25 years earlier. We made only minor changes in an effort to keep the songs as close as possible to the original 1980 sessions.

But the changes had very special meaning to me. On many of the tracks my son Andrew played his cello and added background guitar to songs I wrote and recorded long before he was born. On Live For Today, my daughter Danielle sang background vocals along with vocals I recorded at home when she was 5 years old.

It''s About Time goes through time, starting with Steve calling out "take 1" from 1980 for Cool Breeze and ending with Live For Today. The songs are true to their era and some beyond. They are old friends, and they are what they are! This cd has been a labor of love. Send me an email and let me know if you enjoy it!
