Growing up as a youth Rik Milano would feel that he had an abiltiy to do something that the average person couldn''t do. Later on he would find out that this would turn out to be true. Then early in his junior high years he would listen to a cassette that would change his life before his eyes.
Rik Milano: " I first started getting into rap music back in 1990. I was listening to various types of music. I was transitioning from schools at the time. I had listened to a cassette that my brother dubbed. He was fast forwarding the cassette and it landed on the third verse from Dr. Dre''s "Ain''t nothing but a G thang." Once I heard Snoop come out like, "Gettin funky on the mic like an old batch of collie greens," I was like," who''s that!" My brother had told me that is was some doctor.
That cassette had turned out to be a changing point for Rik Milano. He would then listen to rap artists and study on how they approached the mic. Rik Milano would then start writing lyrics and ballads. Every time he would write a track he would take his time to craft his art as a masterpiece.
Rik Milano: When I would write it would usually be about things that were happening in my life at that point in time. It was always personal, but then times changed and as I grew older I wanted to just get peoples attention and show them that I got talent. I would go to clubs and freestyle and just perform for the fun of it. I would turn out freestyle events and parties just to get a hit out of performing.
Rik Milano would then hook up and collaborate as a squad and then as a group, but things would not work out with either of the groups. Then Rik Milano would take some time off and regain confidence within himself as one with the mic. He then put the pen to the pad and would write and produce an album that would be entitled "A New Beginning."
Rik Milano: I named this album "A New Beginning," because that''s what it is for me, a new beginning. It''s a chance for me to start over as an artist and put away things that were holding me back in the past. I needed to put out this album and just let myself be heard. I had to prove to myself that I could do it on my own and now it''s up to me on how far I want this to go!
