With a passion for music and a deep-seeded faith, Rick Shivers blends the two into one and brings to the table a Christian music sound all his own. Rick found his love for music when hegot his first guitar at age 7, but really began "cutting his music teeth" as a teenager in garage bands--playing talent shows, party concerts and a teen club or two. At age sixteen he co-wrote a few original tunes for his band, and was able to record a short demo in a very small studio.
Childhood musical influences were rooted in old country, but later gave way to the hard rock bands of the ''80s. In 1986, his band converted to Christian Rock after making a life-changing decision to follow Christ. Music took a back seat to marriage and family in the ''90''s, but Rick continued to be inspired and influenced by the newer styles of alternative rock, progressive country, pop, blues and the explosion of great Contemporary Christian music.
Joining the Alliance Praise Team in 2001 provided a new avenue for Rick to use his talents and hone his skills as a singer and songwriter. Just a few years later he began leading music for the Youth Worship services. Now he regularly leads or provides music for various retreats and gatherings, and was a Praise & Worship leader for the CTCYM 2005 Senior High Mission Trip.
In April, 2005, the independent release of his first full-legnth studio project, "Now Is The Time", marked the beginning of a new chapter in Rick''s career--one which he hopes to follow up soon. From the up-beat and inspirational "I''m Gonna Praise You Anyway" to intimate worship ballads like "Take Me Away", and a little in between, his lyrics speak straight from his heart and from the ups and downs of his own faith journey. The overall sound is a guitar-driven southern-rock/country/bluesy mix that gives Rick his own unique style, and he blends it well with the faith-based message he puts across.
Rick''s main desire is that he can use the passion God put in his heart to reach out to others with positive, inspirational music. "When I play and sing, ultimately it''s for an audience of One," he often says, "and hopefully I can lead whoever''s listening to do the same."
