I started living, eating, breathing, and sleeping Hip Hop when I was in the seventh grade. I didn’t know I had the talent of the being a poet until I was playing around picking peppers one summer. I free styled a whole song about a pepper bush. It’s been on ever since! We had battles with the other small towns around the area. I never lost a battle because I could freestyle a whole album off the top of my head. I became a legend in my city. I lived in a small town in Sumter County called Webster and I still represent. My main rivals were some cats who also had mad skills. They were out of Bushnell, another small town in Sumter County. Their names were T-Skee, Camel “D”, and Mr. Nasty. We finally hooked up after being rivals and formed the group Gunfu.
I ran into a white kid in school by the name of Rob who had a LL Cool J t-shirt on. I really didn’t think that white kids in our area listened to Hip Hop. I introduced myself and we became best friends. He told me about a radio station in Tampa, 88.5 DWN AM. They played the latest Hip Hop joints around. Their main DJ was Kenny K. Rob had mad skills as a beat maker, he was a beat maker from hell. I worked two jobs so that we could get equipment. Rob became the newest member of Gunfu, he completed the group.
I’ve been on local radio stations with Gunfu. We always had great turn outs but we never had the finances to show our talent until Jerome A.K.A. G-Money thought that we were good enough for his time and money. He financed most of the shows we did in 1995 such as Black College Weekend. We rocked the beach! We also performed in local night clubs.
In the south Hip Hop was beat by Bass Hip Hop and we were on a total different level. The group finally broke up from too much stress and the responsibility of the life finally caught up with us. But in 1997-1998 I gave it one more shot and landed a spot on one of Orlando’s hottest radio stations 102 Jamz. Unfortunately once again I did not have the right team behind me. My lovely wife gave me the money to produce a CD, and Author Anderson produced it, and it was something the whole world should have heard. That is in the past and this is now, I’m back at it again. I refuse to quit! It is now 2008, it’s a Swamp Thang. Daddy Swamp is in the House! Get the album, its two ham hocks and a pot of greens.
