Since Rodger Medley is the founder and nucleus of RMMR, it starts with him. Rodger plays bass, guitars, keyboards, sings, and is the songwriter/engineer/producer of the RMMR project. Haveing started in music at a very early age, Rodger learned to play the piano from his mother, Doris, before he started school. In school, he played Trombone from Grade School through High School. The first rock concert of his life was "The Beatles" in Chicago. The next concert was "The Monkees" with an unknown opening act called "The Jimi Hendrix Experience." After that, nothing was the same, ever again. Music took control totally. And here is how it all comes together.
Rodger''s first band, "The Ethics," won a series of "Battle of the Bands," promoted by Dick Clark. As a result of this, still teenagers, "The Ethics" extensively toured the midwest as opening act for "Paul Revere and the Raiders," They also made TV appearances, as well. Meeting Carmine Appice and Tim Bogart from "Vanilla Fudge," later with Jeff Beck, was truely a great experience.
Sad, but determined, after this band broke up, Rodger formed a classical rock power trio "Mathias", with drummer extraodinaire Terry Carleton and the eclectic guitarist Emmett Coker. "Mathias" was so far ahead of it''s time that, unfortunately, didn''t last long, but did play the Fox Theater and The Bodega, a number of times, where they met "The Doobie Brothers", which were just another club band at that time. Also living on the same block was a band called "Christian Rapids" with the amazing guitarist, Tom Bryant, and down the street a little farther was a band called "Fritz" with a beautiful little skinny girl, singing lead, by the name of Stevie Nicks, who visited the"Mathias" practice room occasionally.
After "Mathias" Rodger played the Keystone with "Boomerang," and the Filmore, where he met Bill Graham, on Locals Night. In the band, "Keef," Rodger met and jammed with Neal Schon, before Neal joined "Santana" and eventually formed "Journey." Between bands, Rodger did sound for the Long Branch Saloon in Berkley, where he met and did sound for Eddie Money and Elvin Bishop.
After "Keef," Rodger reunited with Terry, and they were the founding members of "Sweet Asylum", where Rodger got the chance to play with long time friend and excellent guitarist from "Streamliner," David Sugarman.
Then he formed "Galadriel," who opened for such acts as "Steppenwolf," "Creedence Clearwater Revival," "The Doobie Brothers," and "Johnny Winter." Under management of John Zambrano, had many more great gigs at the Bodega as well as other great venues. It was about this time, that Rodger met the inventer of "Pong" and founder of "Atari," Nolan Bushnell."
Justin Tyme" was his next band, which, with Terry Carleton and unique guitarist Steve Ritchie along with keyboardist Mike Perlitch, who had an album out on Atlantic Records at the time, showcased in LA, on Sunset Strip, where he met Bob Crane, star of "Hogan''s Heros," and Shep Gordon, Alice Cooper''s Manager.
After "Justin Tyme," Rodger and Terry joined "The Link Wray Band," and had the great privilege of playing with the great and now late, John Cippolina, from Quicksilver Messenger Service. After Link got called to England, to record with Robert Gordon, Rodger and Terry both
began expanding musically; unfortunately in different directions. Terry, by then was quite good on piano and guitar, and had started a solo career doing music for "Cirque San Jose" which led to a CD, "Spaced Out". After that Terry formed "Bleu Food" and released the CD "Cream of Wee Gee" on Bleu Food Records.
Rodger filled in on bass in "Tumblin Dice" for a while, where he met Mike Lopez, an exceptional drummer/percussionist, and guitarist Cipriano Gimeno. At the same time, Rodger began getting into the keyboards and guitar as well. Subsequently, Rodger and Mike formed "Centerline", where Rodger was the keyboardist and secound vocalist.
Going back to bass, Rodger joined "The Touch", which was support act for "Band of Gypsies" featuring Randy Hanson. It was there that Rodger met Leslie Mott. Leslie played flute and keyboards and had been the lead singer for "Alexzander Holms" and "Malisha" before she joined the Touch. She also sang harmonies for "Bender," and Rodger sat in on bass with them. Rodger met Garrett Joseph while with the Touch, a drummer that would later be very instrumental to the RMMR project.
Before the Touch, Garrett played in a band called "White Plains" with a CD named "White Plains". After the Touch, Garrett formed some excellent bands such as "2 A.M." with Rick Fisk on vocals/guitar and John (JohnnyB) Bermudez on bass/vocals/horns and flute,who''s CD is called,
"Do You Know Where Your Daughter Is?". "Rash Behavior," which had Rick Fisk on guitar/vocals and Brian Tucker on bass/vocals has a CD called "No Sympathy." Next, Garrett formed "Infrablue" with Paul Cigno on Bass/vocals and John Grounds on guitar/vocals, and their CD is self-titled "Infrablue."
After the Touch, Rodger and Les joined Mike Lopez and guitarist/singer/songwriter Laird Stribling. They formed R''n''R and played the club circuit in the San Francisco Bay Area extensively. Mike''s wife, Jennifer Lopez, an established photographer in the Bay Area, has been taking pictures for musicians, including Rodger, for years. When Laird moved to the East Coast, Rodger, Les and Mike started the RMMR (pronounced Armor) project. Soon after that, Mike and Cip formed "City of Ruins" and released a CD called "It''s About Time".
Rodger and Les started collaberating for the 1st RMMR CD. After writing and recording enough songs,they spent some time in LA, showcasing these songs. One of the songs showcased, got picked for a compilation CD on Rodell Records in Hollywood. After that, Rodger got serious about songwriting, recording, and Les. They were married on Friday the 13th, just for good luck, and went to Hawaii to do some more songwriting and some serious honeymooning.
Upon their return, Rodger enrolled and graduated from the California Recording Institute in San Francisco, where he met Ronnie Montrose, who was recording at the "Music Annex" at the time. Rodger has recording experience as an engineer and a musician at the "Music Annex", "Sonic Images" and other major recording studios. Now Rodger owns and operates "RMMR Studios", where he has recorded many bands, as well as two RMMR CD''s, "Up Before the Dream Ends" and "Pink Steel" which had the award winning composer/keyboardist Walter Murphy putting
down that excellent solo in the Ska song "That''s The One."
Rodger engineered a CD of the band "Div''r City Music", which featured Jade on vocals, along with Dan Tibbets, an excellent guitarist/drummer/keyboardist who was introduced to them by Pete Panagas. Dan later joined the RMMR project. Dan is another great photographer in the Bay Area, and has taken many photos for RMMR, as well as Div''r City, Infrablue, TMJ, and Blues Power.
Rodger, Garrett and Dan, "TMJ" released a CD called "Overbite." John Grounds, with Rodger and Garrett formed "Blues Power." They released two CD''s, "Blues Power" and "Blues Power 2" before becoming "Grounds, Joseph & Medley", and releasing the first CD under that name.
Rodger and Les, with their friends, David Sugarman, John Grounds and Dan Tibbets, round out the sound of RMMR these days, and have a third CD called, "Deal With It!" which contains the polictical song "What''s It To You?".
