Julian Johnson began playing the piano at the age of ten, and quickly blossomed into a rising star in his craft. While in high school at the School of Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio, Julian had the opportunity to play an original piano composition in Gifu, Japan, while touring with his school in their play entitled, “A Book with Five Rings.” While in school at SCPA, Julian studied jazz composition, vocal education, and drama, and he was privileged to write the music as well as lyrics for his senior class song. Upon his graduation from high school in 1999, Julian received both academic and artistic diplomas, along with an honors certificate from the State of Ohio in mathematics. Julian was selected as the recipient of the Camille Cosby Music Scholarship, a full four year renewable scholarship to Florida A&M University, as well as a full tuition scholarship offer in music at Miami University-Oxford.
Upon his graduation from high school, Julian continued his education, earning a Bachelors of Science from Alabama A&M University while on a full scholarship for mathematics, and a Masters of Science from the University of Alabama-Huntsville who granted a fellowship towards his education, both in Electrical Engineering.
Despite his mathematical genius and scientific brilliance, Julian decided that it was his desire to pursue a full-time career as a musician. “"The" introduction to julian johnson,” his debut CD, was released in 2006, in which Julian wrote, sang, played, and produced each track on the album with a keyboard and an eight track mixer at his home. Upon the release of this CD, Julian received many accolades on the exemplary quality of production, and was awarded the number two pick of two-hundred-fifty other local selections from Everybody’s Records in Cincinnati, Ohio—one of the largest independent record stores in the city. Staying within the top three positions for more than a year, the public response was to be noted, increasing the number of requests for him to perform at a variety of concerts and events.
Julian has taken part in a variety of large events in the Cincinnati area, including being selected as the lead musician for the 20th Annual Martin Luther King Banquet, an event that draws upward of 500 guests yearly. He was also asked to play for a fundraising event called, “Bring Back the Big Easy,” which was purposed to provide financial aid to the hospitality workers in New Orleans after the Katrina disaster. Julian was also privileged to share the stage with legendary solo artist, Howard Hewitt, in a concert in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Recently, Julian has been working with some of the top musicians and producers in the country in preparation for the release of his new CD for national distribution. He has also continued to cultivate his talents as a songwriter, composer, pianist, technician, and producer. He is devoted not to only entertain as a solo artist, but to also provide the services of composing, producing, and songwriting to artists of various genres of music.
