Details:
Mining the archives of global roots music, this crossover band offers a bilingual blend of original songs and a fresh approach to roots music. This CD pays tribute to conjunto, a type of folk music that first formed along the Tex-Mex border. It features 1930''s ballads, a devilish cumbia, dance-hall rancheras, cry-in-your beer country duets, and some Johnny Cash for good measure. This recording stands apart with rich vocals, lively accordion, old-school bajo sexto, violin and cornet, and showcases special guest Grammy-nominated maestro Santiago Jiménez Jr. Dedicated to the life and legend of Lydia Mendoza.

Luna Nueva is joined by Tara Linda, a San Francisco Bay Area favorite best known for her jazzy blues vocal style. CDBaby selected her debut CD "Fool''s Journey" as "EDITORS PICK" in the jazzy blues category, with a 5 Star review!

With Luna Nueva, Tara Linda sings in the "dueto" style with Gilbert Reyes (accordion, bajo sexto, vocals). Gilbert, a South Texas native and founder of Reyes Accordions, is dedicated to the traditions of accordion and bajo sexto. He partnered with Tara after hearing her sing Lydia Mendoza''s music.

Tara Linda (vocals, bass, drums) is a Texas native who began playing music as a drummer in punk bands in Austin while soaking up the rich Texas traditions of blues, Tex-Mex, and Panhandle Americana. "I have been inspired lately by the early conjunto sung by the women of South Texas, in particular, Lydia Mendoza. The music is beautiful, filled with soul and longing, and reminiscent of American blues or Portuguese fado. I want the world to know of Lydia''s music, thus several of Lydia''s songs are on this album."

Santiago Jiménez Jr. (accordion, bajo sexto) won the 2000 NEA National Heritage Fellowship award and is a multiple Grammy award nominee. A prolific performing and recording artist, he has made over 60 recordings and has toured with the legendary Lydia Mendoza and Texas stalwarts Butch Hancock and Jerry Jeff Walker. He continues the tradition of his father, Don Maestro Santiago Jiménez Sr., known as the father of modern conjunto music.

Luna Nueva is also Pete Hernandez (accordion, bajo sexto) a long-time veteran of the South Texas conjunto scene, and luthier Layo Jiménez (bajo sexto). They are joined by Bay Area musician Jeff Hobbs on violin and cornet.
