Since her 1996 European debut as Madame Quickly in the Stuttgart State Theater’s production of Falstaff, voaclist Tichina Vaughn has risen to prominence in the artistic circles of the capital city of Baden-Wurttemburg as well as on the most important theater and concert stages of Europe and the Americas. The North Carolina native was recently granted the title of Kammersängerin by the Cultural Ministry of Baden Wurttenburg, making her a member of only a handful of black americans ever to recieve this coveted honor.

Her current and future projects include the roles of LA FRUGOLA with the Los Angeles Opera, EBOLI and KLYTEMNESTRA with the Frankfurt Opera, AZUCENA with Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa, and AMNERIS for Teatro Verdi, Padua, and San Francisco Opera. Additionally, her concert scheduele includes recitals in Stuttgart, Riga, and Hungary.

The singer continues to establish herself as an artist of excellence singing guest performances at the Hamburg State Opera, the Semperoper Dresden, the Frankfurt Opera, The Opera House Graz, the Teatro Filarmonico and the Arena di Verona, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the Teatro della Muse in Ancona, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, the Teatro Verdi Trieste, the Festival Arturo Toscanini in Bussetto, the National Opera Hong Kong, the opera houses of Michigan, Seattle, Orlando and Tulsa. Her portrayals of AZUCENA, AMNERIS, and EBOLI have been hailed by the critics and the public as outstanding and electrifying. She was HERODIAS at the Canary Islands Music Festival Las Palmas, ERDA in Rheingold and Siegfried at the Finnish National Opera, in Kassel and in Augsburg. She sang WALTRAUTE in Mannheim, and WITWE BEGBICK in ‚Der Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny’ in Stuttgart and Bremen and VENUS at the Stuttgart and the Hamburg State Opera.


Thanks to her rare versatility, Tichina Vaughn is also very much in demand for broadway, jazz, and popular music engagements. Her musical roots were established at the Northside High School for the Arts in Atlanta where she sang and danced her way to childhood stardom. Today she continues to be an active participant in the musical and club scene appearing at various clubs and galas in the Baden Wurttemberg area.

Her discography includes the Stuttgart Ring Cycle, that was filmed for the Euro Arts distributed DVD, where she performed FRICKA in Walküre and WALTRAUTE in Götterdämmerung and her first solo CD ‘Christmas At My House’was released by Animato .

While still a student at the North Carolina School of Arts, Tichina Vaughn was named a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree, she was immediately invited to become a member of the Metropolitan Opera Young Artist Program. She made her debut on stage at the MET in Porgy and Bess and sang roles in La Traviata and Rigoletto. Tichina Vaughn had her first performances in Europe as a soloist at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz.

The artist has been awarded numerous prizes among them the Metropolitan Opera Award, the Opera Index Grant, and the Richard Tucker Study Grand Award.

In concerts, masses, lieder from Beethoven, Bernstein, Brahms, Mahler, Mozart and Verdi, Tichina Vaughn has been seen on all the important stages with such renowned conductors as Mstislav Rostropovich, James Levine, Loren Mazeel, Nicola Luisotti, Bobby McFerrin, Daniel Oren and many others.
