Details:
At Sunset (GR04)is a dream come true for guitarist Rob Price.
He was lucky enough to get the super group of Ellery Eskelin (tenor sax), Trevor Dunn (bass) and Joey Baron (drums)to join him in playing his own compositions and choice of covers.

The music was recorded and mixed by legendary underground
engineer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, John Zorn''s Naked City and
Spy vs. Spy, The Swans, Foetus, Boredoms, Morex Optimo, Lydia Lunch, Dim Sum Clip Job and many more). The disc was mastered by Fred Kevorkian, who has also mastered many CDs which you probably already own. The cover painting by Wayne Kral was commissioned especially for the CD.

Reviews:

"Price simultaneously takes his experimentations seriously enough to give them weight, and with enough humor to keep them free of awkward affectation. An enjoyable mix, this is an album for the gut as much as the brain." - from https://www.tradebit.com, where "At Sunset" is a Publisher''s Pick!

"It speaks volumes that Price is able to assemble a stellar cast of co-conspirators that include the likes of tenor saxophonist Ellery Eskelin, bassist Trevor Dunn, and drummer Joey Baron, probably the reason that people might give this one a closer look. Such focus on the sidemen is an obvious initial reaction, but what Price has formulated here is much more than a top-flight score card.
Rather, Price, who might not be a household name, has garnered plenty of Downtown-related experiences, including a work with Dim Sum Clip Job, but this release focuses on his ensemble work as well as his compositional skills. The program itself presents varied terrains that thrive on mood shifts, tonal variance, and noirish, late-night atmospherics. Price''s sound fits squarely within these contours, using effects to shape his sound, quite often with a twangy swagger that is aided by his prickly attack and punctured rhythms..."

"The music is a righteous blend of haunting melodies, some bluesy, roots-like vibes. On "1600 Hours", the guitar, bass and sax play this sly, hypnotic repeating groove while Joey plays the rambling, infectious theme on top and throughout the piece. "Night Vision" has one of those spy-movie themes that Naked City used to specialize in, while "Icicles" has that swell surf guitar sound that Ribot gets on ''Circle Maker'' of ''The Gift'', as well as a delightful laid back solo from Ellery on sax. The quartet rock out nicely on the "Main Title" and play some more memorable movie theme grooviness on "Jack of Cats". "Mouse Game" has a great, finger-snapping somewhat funky melody that is quick and most infectious. The long title track closes this CD with a steamy, bluesy groove and with some fine, long and tasty solos from Ellery''s sax, Rob''s guitar, Trevor''s acoustic bass and Joey''s drums. All in all, a fine job from this fab downtown all-star crew. " - The Downtown Music Gallery https://www.tradebit.com

"A fun session led by guitar and sax. It''s different, because Price plays a twangy, cowboy-Western-style guitar, making for a more rockin'' sound than your usual jazz guitar. Includes some catchy, friendly pieces (2,4,7) and a couple boundary pushers (3,5)." - KZSU 90.1 fm Stanford, CA
