MP3 Robin Avery - Chasing Balloons

Immediate comparisons to Sade are almost unavoidable...not that that''s a bad thing. This CD has an understated sensuality that reels you in. From the ambient keyboard sounds and subtle jazz piano, beautiful guitar and of course, the sultry vocals.

Bio

Smooth Jazz or Pop singer/songwriters sometimes draw too heavily on the music of others they admire. They then are compared to these artists, or it is said that they are a "cross" or "combination" of these artist''s styles and sounds. While you may hear echoes of Laura Nyro, Carole King, Sade and Marvin Gaye, there can be no mistake that Robin Avery''s music and voice are all her own.
In 2000, Ms. Avery released her first full length, original CD, AURORA. an album of romantic, sexy smooth jazz whose lyrics speak of meaning and significance. The12 song CD combines strong vocals and smooth jazz stylings to create a musical tapestry of the thoughts and emotions that color her life. She received national airplay and has performed throughout South Florida.
In collaboration with keyboardist/composer and producer, Paul Banman, Robin is getting ready to release her second CD, The Way You Hold Me. Robin offers her fusion of smooth jazz and R&B/Pop, with lyrical reflections on life and love. Her songs cover the joys and pangs of men and women who are trying to connect, separate, or find their own meanings. The featured song, The Calm In My Storm, is a romantic ballad that explores the difficulty of leaving a comfortable relationship to be true to oneself.
Kiss Me In The Rain is a warm, melodic call to live fully and spontaneously and to treasure laughter and love in each moment.
What Was On Your Mind, a hypnotic samba, speaks of the secrets partners keep, and the realities they deny to maintain relatedness with the other. This song powerfully portrays both longing to know those secret thoughts, and the fear of what they might be.
For Robin Avery singer/songwriter, following her dreams have always led to music. From the time she was a little girl, Robin was infatuated with music and performing. A native of Florida , she grew up on Miami Beach. She began at an early age singing and dancing to pop tunes in front of her stereo and when she was 9 wrote her first song and won her first talent contest. From the ages of 11 to 16 she was the lead soloist in her school choir.
Having her journey temporarily turned away from the musical path, Robin immersed herself in academia and eventually earned a Ph.D. in psychology. She pursued a career as a neuropsychologist in California, working with stroke victims and patients with head injuries, but never abandoning her musical spirit and passion.
In 1995 Robin returned to South Florida and began the pursuit of her lifelong dream to write and sing her own songs. "A person''s wealth is measured by the depth and strength of his or her relationships," says Robin. "Relationship to self, lover, friend, parents, God, and the natural universe." For Robin Avery, her dreams and her life have become one with her music.
Robin Avery is a rare artist. In a time when others in her format are looking to jump on a trend to get momentary exposure, Robin is an artist whose music and words paint wonderful images of what we want our lives to be, and who we aspire to become. This is truly an artist who will stand the test of time.
