Details:
At 25, Sara Kamin''s powerful voice has already been compared to incredible female artists like Jann Arden, Emm Gryner, Patty Griffin and https://www.tradebit.come. A regular performer at The Rivoli, C''est What?, Holy Joe''s, Clinton''s, Free Times Café and Oasis, Kamin has shared the stage with Molly Johnson, Edie Carey, Matthew Barber, Melissa Ferrick, Jonatha Brooke, Kurt Swinghammer and Arlene Bishop. According to acclaimed Canadian artist Ron Sexsmith, Kamin "has a very natural way with a song and a voice that is lovely and pure."

A native of Toronto, Kamin began singing at the age of four, astounding family and friends and winning numerous talent competitions. "I was one of those little girls who would dance around my room composing songs to musicals and writing new lyrics to my favourite Debbie Gibson melodies," she recalls. Kamin focused her talent by taking vocal lessons. At the age of 16, she picked up her first guitar and began teaching herself how to play. Songwriting came naturally to Kamin and she composed over one hundred songs before her first live performance in 2001. Serious about honing her musical abilities, Kamin studied voice, guitar, songwriting, music history and harmony at the Royal Conservatory of Music. While continuing her work at the Conservatory, Kamin completed an honours degree in psychology and sociology at the University of Toronto in 2003.

Kamin co-produced her debut album, In Her Own Time, with independent producer Carlin Nicholson (The 68s) in 2001. The album included seven tracks featuring Kamin''s original music and lyrics. The song Mary went on to win one of six runner-up spots in the folk category in the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Competition (Your Fears, another track from In Her Own Time, received an honourable mention in this contest the year before). Kamin was among only two Canadians who placed within the top ten in her category. The final determinations in this prestigious international songwriting contest were made by the diverse Executive Committee, which includes, among others, such notable artists as Björk, Mary J. Blige, the Foo Fighters, Carlos Santana, James Brown, Elton John and Ben Harper.

Kamin''s love of the independent music scene is reflected in her support of local musicians, such as Adam Cotton, Vyletz, Reid Jamieson, Catherine Hume, Jason Collett and Andrea Florian, who emphatically described Kamin''s songs as "stunning" and praised her on-stage enthusiasm. Her love of performing and desire to celebrate the talent of local singer-songwriters prompted her to put together Vixens With Voices, which featured a lineup of Toronto''s best female talent, including Hume, Florian, Ronley Teper, Shannon Weir, Linda M, Nicole Dueck and one of Kamin''s musical idols, Arlene Bishop. Impressed by her set, Bishop praised Kamin, proclaiming, "You have a great voice and I think your songs are happening!"

Well-respected by fellow musicians and club bookers, Kamin received an overwhelming response when she started Music for MSF, an annual benefit concert for Doctors Without Borders (Medécins Sans Frontières), now entering its third year. Music for MSF has raised over $3,000 dollars and has featured performances by some of Toronto''s most notable musicians, including Matthew Barber, Andrea Florian, The 68s, Greg Hobbs, Kurt Swinghammer and celebrated Canadian jazz singer Molly Johnson. Kamin recently played the Opera House alongside American heavy-hitters Melissa Ferrick, Jonatha Brooke, Edie Carey and Madviolet to support the Red Door Women''s Shelter. Kamin''s dedication to social causes is also expressed in her continued support of the AIDS Committee of Toronto.

After spending much of the past two years performing and building up a solid local fan base, Kamin is preparing to release her sophomore CD, Somewhere In Between, in June 2004. The ten-track album was produced by newcomer Ian Busher, a graduate of Toronto''s Harris School for the Arts who spent years honing his craft while working with amazing musicians like French guitar sensation Pascal Labillois. Somewhere In Between features musical performances by Busher, Labillois and Carlin Nicholson (The 68''s) and showcases Kamin''s incredible range and diversity as a singer-songwriter.

Kamin currently divides her time between Canada and the UK, where she is working on her MSc in Performance Psychology at the University of Edinburgh.

Sara Kamin''s "big soulful voice...commands attention" (Kurt Swinghammer). Her "truly memorable" songwriting (Linda M) and her dedication to her craft make her an artist to watch for in coming years.
