People Love Music. Sales of billions upon billions of music related items through the years give evidence to this. There are times when the love of music becomes a passion - a determined dream transcending any other. Scott Mann, a singer/songwriter and acoustic musician from Fort Worth, Texas understands this drive.

Scott''s determination to succeed in music was grafted into his family tree years ago. His grandmother and her family grew up during the depression years in a small north Texas town. The family of five children worked hard to get by and music was a major escape from the dark times. Scott''s grandmother inherited the old family piano. When he was small Scott was awed by his grandmother being able to make music with that big old black instrument. They sat for hours singing and playing old hymns. Scott''s grandmother died in 1990, but Scott did not forget the music. His senior year of high school Scott was the lead singer in a local band. During the next few years Scott performed in a couple of garage bands and released two independent CD''s.

He Married, divorced and had a son. Music ministered to Scott through the heartbreak of his marriage ending. He says, "music became my therapy-a place to tell my hurt to."

Today, Scott is a solo artist. Musical peers refer to him as "the love song balladeer", and his music is compared to the music of James Taylor, David Gray,David Wilcox, and Chris Issack. Music critics describe his voice as, "the most soulful they ever have heard."

Scott served on the Board of Directors of the Fort Worth Songwriter''s Association for the past two years, and has also given over 100 performances each year. Recent performances include the Grapefest Wine and Music Festival in Grapevine, Texas, in September, 2003. In October 2002, Scott performed at the Fort Worth Fall Arts and Music Festival at Sundance Square in Fort Worth, Texas. In November of 2002 he performed at the North Texas New Music Festival in the Deep Ellum Arts District of Dallas, TX. In the spring of 2003 Scott toured California on the "acoustic road show", in which he performed at over five locations in a week''s period of time across California and Nevada.

What may be more important to Scott than even music is helping someone through addition, and he remains active in this pursuit. For him the true miracle is the lives his music touches-be it one or millions. Scott Says, "Every time he plays he plays as if it were his last, because you never know when it might be." Allana Wang Mann

The second album from Scott Mann is a superior collection of tunes in the true spirit of the singer/songwriter tradition. Sam''s Acoustic Soul is an acoustic treat that features the vocal, musical, and lyrical talents of Mann. Relying on primarily his guitar and vocals to carry the album and little else, Mann truly understands the essence of what an acoustic album is all about; on his second effort, he hits the bulls-eye.

This album is highly recommended for those seeking pure acoustic pleasure.

It''s acoustic, Mann...From The Fort Worth Business Press-March 12th,2004

And speaking of Arts Fifth Avenue...

Scott Mann''s latest contribution to the singer-songwriter tradition is an album of homespun originals called Sam''s Acoustic Soul, an entirely acoustic workout for guitar and voice that will appeal to anyone who wishes that popular music would revert to the days before James Taylor and Simon & Garfunkel discovered orchestration.

The collection is the next best thing to catching Mann''s act in person - he''s a mainstay of the Fort Worth Songwriters Association and a familiar presence at various outdoor festivals in north Texas. Mann will underscore that truism with an appearance next weekend at Arts Fifth Avenue to mark the release of his CD.

The relationship between Mann''s self-starter recording career and his in-the-flesh performances is such that he requires no overproduced accompaniment on stage to duplicate the sound of his albums: What you see (or hear) is what you get, and may we have some more, please?

Idiomatically speaking, Mann sticks primarily to the tender-ballad school of songwriting, with a strong element of upbeat emotionalism and an ironic sense of humor. This attitude extends to the occasional attempt at blues - "Unemployment Blues," in the case of the present album - that Mann approaches with a confidence that compensates for his being rather a stranger to that rawer idiom. His talents are most strikingly applied here to such tunes as the enigmatic "Billboard Broken Lady" and a philosophical meditation called "Karma in the Universe."

Mann comes from a musical family, including a great-uncle who worked as an assistant to Irving Berlin before World War II. That heritage colors Mann''s work in indelible ways, lending his recordings to date an accessible ring of down-home familiarity. Mann''s previous album, The Road as I Know It, dates from 2001.
