REVIEWS FOR IT''S A GOOD THING:

A music fan from Tel Aviv, February 25, 1999

Light Jazz at It''s Best! Guitarist and producer Phil Sheeran has put together an incredibly actively listenable album (and modestly called it a good thing). No easy feat considering how overcrowded this genre can be with sound-alike tracks. Excellent rhythm section, great flute and sax work, (guitar work as well, needless to say) carry you through a rapidly changing mosaic of melodic streams. Sheeran''s love of Brazilian melodies is apparent (check out his debut album "Breaking Through"). The production as a whole is thoroughly enjoyable. If you like Spyra Gyra, Jeff Lorber and go for a little more contemporary straight-ahead, check this out! I''d even go so far as to rank it one of the better albums of its type around. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Elliot Coe, ex-jazz director WSND-FM

Seattle-based guitarist Phil Sheeran is sure to be a big hit for Rippingtons and Earl Klugh fans. "It''s A Good Thing" presents ten well arranged and performed selections ranging from easy bossa/samba grooves to splendid, upbeat themes. Sheeran''s work on acoustic, electric and guitar synthesizer is impressive. He seems to have blended influences from Pat Metheny, Earl Klugh, Al DiMeola, Peter White and Oscar Castro-Neves. Other stand-out contributors to the recording are Eric Marienthal, Luis Conte, Keith Jones, Gary Novack and Gregg Karukas. The sum of this release is a pleasurable listening experience that not only demonstrates outstanding playing but a promise for continued great music from Sheeran.
