Vision is not seeing things as they are, but as they will be.

In these changing times it is important that we give thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you Lord for allowing me to share my musical gift with the world, "the Gift that you gave & the Gift that''s making room for me".

Now I know a lot of you are saying, "What''s taking the new CD so long", and to be honest that''s a story for the Oprah show. But if you really, really want to know feel free to email and I''ll be more than happy to tell the inquiring minds that wants to know all about it.

In the mean time, I''d like to take this time to talk, to you about my new CD entitled No Boundaries, my band, and what''s my inspiration behind the music.

So starting in reverse order I''ll talk about how I came up with the names of the songs and what inspired me to write them. Well, let''s start at the top,

No Boundaries was written for my oldest son Lil Gentry, because the song itself, to me has an endless and open feel to it and that''s something that I impress upon Lil Gent all the time. How so, you ask. Well let me tell you. My son has many talents, he plays the Piano, he''s plays 1st chair Trumpet in school, and his mind is endless when it comes to creating. So I encourage him not to limit himself and I constantly remind him, there are, no boundaries in life.

A.J.''s Groove was written for my son Adonis. Now for those of you that heard this song "if you haven''t be sure to go buy one or send me a money order for 15 bucks and I''ll send you one" you know its kind of laid back and groovy with a hint of busyness. Well that''s Adonis "except for the groovy part" that boy is busy in fact he''s so busy when you look up busy in the dictionary you''ll see his face "hahaha" and the only time he''s laid back is when he has on some new clothes and when that happens he changes for Adonis into Rico Suave''veee.

Kendhal is new addition to the family and, is my brothers 1st child. So I thought I''d write a song for my brother Alvin his wife Jamie and my new niece Kendhal. Heck I even went that extra mile and had my friend Chanda "CEL" Long, write some lyrics to the track. I even told her to make believe that she was singing to her baby, "even though she doesn''t have one" and look what happened we made a hit. Hey bro have more kids so I can write more hits.

Now The Fellas was actually a variation of the song I wrote for my lil girl Whitney entitled Miracle which I''ll talk about in a minute.
Anyway The Fellas came when we were in the studio getting ready to record Miracle. Well it was the 1st thing in the morning and I said to the band "come on fellas lets warm up" and in the process of warming up the band kicked out this smooth and laid back groove that I recorded without telling them,,,Why didn''t tell you ask. Because had I told them that I was going to put that track on the CD, we would have recorded that song over about 20 times, so I duped them sorry fellas,,,,,,,,,hahahaha

Miracle was written for my baby Lil Whitney. Because like the song which is a little sassy, by all means jazzy, and has a strong beat to it Sums up everything I could say about Whitney who was born 3 months early and who Doctors gave up on saying her chances of living was slim to none. Well needless to say that was six years ago.

And now we''re at my two favorite songs on the CD, the Hey Slim Interlude and the actual song Hey Slim. Now originally Hey Slim was just going to be an Interlude.
But that all changed. Last year back in March my Granny was sent home in a Hospice program diagnosed with Cancer. When it was my turn to take care of her, I would carry her "in my arms cradled like a baby" from her room on the 2nd floor of our house down to the living room, sitting her in her favorite chair. I would then set up my keyboard and start composing the Hey Slim Interlude. Grandma would sit in her chair a listen, and I would play it over and over for her until she was ready to go back to bed. When Grandma passed on I felt compelled to write a complete song for her using those same chords, "I need to stop typing for a minute my eyes are swelling" sorry I can''t help it, when I think about that whole situation it still makes me cry.

But moving right along,,,, for those of you who are wondering how I came up with the name to this tune ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the answer is simple. I just think back to when I was a little boy living with my Grandparents. I remember my Grandpa would come home, and stand at the bottom of the stairs and yell upstairs to my Grandma "HEY SLIM" wanna go for a ride.

Okay for all you married guys out there here is a rule to remember. NEVER EVER leave your wife off the list when writing songs or whatever it is you''re doing ,,,,, because if you do BELIEVE me it''s a long road home when they''re mad at you....and that''s no Sh@ ! ,,,,, well you know.

Finding that out the hard way I wrote Ria for my wife Wendy, and trust my I tried my best to express my love for her musically because she wasn''t listening to anything else when she found out I didn''t write her a song. Needless to say I was out of the doghouse when she heard her song. So for you fellas that''s reading this pay close attention to what I''m about to say "ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR WOMAN".,,,,,,,, hahaha

You & Me was a song that I wrote about a year ago, and now that I think about it I think I wrote it for myself ,,,,,,,,,and for you guys "the listeners". I''m grateful for all of you "especially the ones that buy CD''s" ,,,,,,,,, hahaha I''m just playing, I really appreciate you guys. Keep up the good work.

Now for all of you that like the song Your The One For Me, you might want to thank the singer Terry Bruce "who wrote the lyrics to the song" ,,,,, because she is the one who saved this song from hitting the cutting room floor. Yeeeaaaaaahhh Terry ,,,, you go girl. Hahaha,,,,,. I believe Terry was inspired by my good friend Daryl Taylor when she recorded this song. So all I have to say to that is "hey man keeping doing the d@#n thing.

To my Band Last Exit: Ron, Jabarrie, Shinda, Alex, Demetrius & my main man Damon. Thank you for putting up with all my fussing & for not giving up on me, I really appreciate you guys, without you there would be no me.

To my extended musical family: Randy Scott, Tim & Brian Bowman, Charles Prophet, Ivan Benning, Lynn Roundtree, Michelle Nicole, Mike Harrington, Carl Holmes, Steve Bibbs, Terry Washington, Bill Moss, Bamm Davis, Marion Meadows "who by the way ..... hooked me up with a sweet mouth piece", Jackie Grant, & Brian Cullins "who would have Dogged me if I didn''t mention his name" ..... I''m overwhelmed by the encouragement & support you''ve given me. Thank you for being true friends.
