BIO – LEE MARVIN
Imagine New York City; the energy, the sights, the SOUNDS - a multicultural city full of people chasing dreams. This is where Lee Marvin has honed his skills playing Jazz, R&B, Pop, Blues, and World Music. His work with the likes of Ted Curson, Martha Reeves, Julee Cruise, Pinetop Perkins, and Montego Joe has been in venues ranging from subway platforms to Madison Square Garden. The city’s rich artistic community has provided the opportunity to collaborate with singer/songwriters, avant-garde composers, off-off Broadway directors and choreographers, and a chamber ensemble. This is the world that informs the music on Lee’s first solo album, Flowers To Strangers.
The recording is about the magic of combining diverse rhythms, intriguing lyrics, and intuitive musicians. The music is defined by Lee’s singing, songwriting, and bass playing and brought to life by the chemistry of the band that features Rob Blumenthal on drums and David Phelps on guitar. The songs are both fun and thought provoking, loosely in the tradition of Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell. With song titles like: The Answer Is A Dance, Ennovy’s Blessing and Where Else Would You Be?
