charlie is a children’s rock musician and arts educator who
“makes interactive learning games out of the Primary Music Curriculum.”
Music Composer
charlie has written and released three albums of children’s music: ROCKgarden (2008), Playhouse Earth (2004), and Little Fingers Music (2001), as well as a Progressive Folk Rock EP entitled Breathe (1997). On the recordings, charlie jams with some of Ontario’s finest rock and multicultural musicians.
Touring
Supported by the Toronto and Ontario Arts Councils, charlie has toured extensively in Ontario since 2001. In addition to performing in events such as Toronto’s Word on the Street, Vaughan Festival of the Arts, Taste of the Kingsway, Junction Arts Festival, Sudbury’s Summerfest, and Celebrate Toronto Festival, charlie visits schools and teaches workshops to Primary and Junior classes across Ontario.
Community Concert Jams and Workshops
These workshops culminate in students joining charlie on the stage with a dancer and a percussionist. By participating in the shows, the children learn a variety of musical and performing skills, such as singing, chanting, dancing, rhythm & movement, hand jives, etc.
Arts Educator
charlie’s workshops are designed to help students and teachers with the music curriculum to integrate cross curricular expectations. His “Make-a-CD” workshops feature musicians from a variety of cultures. In 2007, charlie was hired to teach the music program at Cedarvale Public School in Toronto.
Music School
charlie has been teaching piano since graduating with an Honors Degree in Theory and Composition from Western University. He has been running a small neighborhood music studio for over 15 years that employs piano, guitar and vocal teachers. He has also designed a group introductory keyboard course that teaches the basics to young children.
Skateboarder
As a teenager, charlie was a sponsored rider. He has performed demos, competed in contests, tested equipment and was featured on TV and in newspapers. He still skates today.
