Kate Strand grew up in Los Angeles CA. After singing with multiple bands of all genres ranging from Country, Rock, Pop, Electronic and Folk and rigorous study of music in all forms, Kate set out to create her own unique sound in a small rehearsal space in Van Nuys. This is where she recorded the majority of her demo, Lost Found and Stolen, on which she plays all instruments except for bass (Blane Barker) and subtle sitar (Morgan Delaney) on the title track "Lost and Found". All songs are written and produced by Kate Strand, along with Henrik Linde who worked as the engineer and co-producer. The demo was also recorded in various houses between Los Angeles and Corona Del Mar CA, giving it an organic spontaneous feel.
With little gear and little money, Kate Strand actually felt a sense of freedom creating the demo while experimenting with whatever was in the room including trash cans, broken bass drums, carpet, blown amps and cheap mics. The demo ranges from the gritty electric guitars and vocals on "Stolen" to a live take of "Darling" on which she sings gently and vulnerably in a friends living room with only a nylon string guitar, to the heavier gypsy style percussion of "Closely" to the more dreamlike dance of "What the Hell Blues" that might just make you want to go take a long drive in the rain to ponder.
Kate has already written many new songs that are ready to be recorded for the next album and played live at her shows all around the West Coast with her ever-changing band. She lives to create music that captures those tiny moments in life that are so strong you can smell them but nearly impossible to explain in words. She maintains a cozy sense of familiarity while also presenting something new to the ear and unique to the palette.
