The Businessmen''s Record Club is proud to present "Last Place in the Rat Race", the debut instrumental album from Brooklyn cut-and-paste hip hop/electronic artist, Anvil Hands. The record is aptly named for his course of life over the past several years after abruptly picking up and moving to New York City. Last Place in the Rat Race paints an exaggerated story of a struggle for fulfillment in a city that can be quite cruel and unforgiving. By way of meticulously place snippets and samples from obscure records decades forgotten, he whips up a wall of sound throughout this long player . "The media itself is what made the record interesting to create," he says. "The sounds were aged - they had character to them. For me, its really about taking that piece of sound and owning it, like manipulating the sound itself instead of just settling for an obvious sample." The album plays more like the soundtrack to a 70s action flick rather than your run-of-the-mill beat tape, but would intrigue those with an eclectic taste in music, backpacker and classical conductor alike.
