Details:
"Fire In The Sugarhouse" is the long-awaited new CD by Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys, a band that has become a living tradition in New England and the Northeastern U.S. The Plowboys have been playing and creating their own distinctive style of Bluegrass music for 35 years, and "Sugarhouse" reveals that their originality and imagination, their energy and musicianship, continue to soar.
"Fire In The Sugarhouse" is the kind of album that fans of Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys have come to expect. It includes provocative original songs and instrumentals, well-chosen compositions from a variety of contemporary writers, and traditional Bluegrass material performed with repect for this uniquely American genre. As so many of the Plowboys'' signature songs have done over the years, "Fire in the Sugarhouse" -- the rousing title song -- and several of the other original selections, including "Yankee Requiem" and "Ice Out," are steeped in the landscape and lifestyles of rural New England. "Old-Fangled Rag" takes a humorous look at the 21st century. And in "Hellbound Train" the Plowboys completely recreate a traditional ballad for a wild ride toward an ominous eternity.
The band lends its interpretations of songs by Dan Fogelberg ("Morning Sky") and Harlan Howard ("The Moon Song") and others, and rounds out the album with inspired renditions of the Kenny Baker fiddle tune "Washington County" and the Stanley Brothers'' gospel gem "Harbor of Love."
These 14 new selections continue the legacy of the group long known as the hardest-working bluegrass band in Vermont -- a group that has thrilled audiences from Portland to Pawtucket, Moscow to Middlesex, and London to Littletlon. The nation''s number one bluegrass magazine, Bluegrass Unlimited, had this to say in its recent review: "Fire in the Sugarhouse is a superb collection of contemporary bluegrass that echoes the new Englan roots of Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys."
