This CD contains 15 original songs designed to reflect the joys and troubles of childhood, presented in intelligent ways. Produced to the high quality standards of most classical CDs, all the music was performed by top musicians, many of whom have also accompanied Ann Murray.
The vocal group is “The Freerose Corporation”, and features a variety of talented vocalists with support groups of school children. Chief among the major vocalists is the beloved Irish Tenor, John McDermott. John brings powerful solo performances to several outstanding songs. His mellow tones on the song “Campfire Night” evoke deep emotion in every listener, from pre-school children to their loving grandparents. In “Lightning and Thunder”, John McDermott brings excitement to a story meant to quell children’s fears of thunder. With a Johnny Cash-like interpretation, McDermott’s vocals and the magnificent musicianship by the outstanding band bring the authentic sound effects to life. A solo stint on the “In the Country” segment of a song give John McDermott an opportunity to belt out the lyrics like a country rocker.
Throughout the album, songs demonstrate an understanding of and respect for children. They provide encouragement by showing empathy with the child. “A Grand Child” promotes the importance of grandparents. “Big Yellow School Bus” reflects the real life of bussed schoolchildren. “Big Dog” conjures a fantasy of world travel and adventure with a trusting pet. All fifteen songs carry a happy message of understanding and support for a child.
Barry Rosenberg is known for creating and writing the long-running television series “The Waterville Gang”. Barry also created dozens of high profile radio and television commercials and jingles. He wrote all of the lyrics for “You’ve Got To Be A Kid To Get In”.
Paul Zaza, best known for his many film scores wrote all of the music on the album. Paul and Barry co-produced the album which was recorded at Paul’s Zaza Sound Studios in Toronto, Canada.
